Tweaking windows XP to get the most out of your trading software....

  1. The first step is to visit this site:

    http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Then, Click START/RUN and type in "msconfig". Go to the startup tab and you will get a list of all startup tasks.

Go over the tasks one by one as detailed in the above link and determine which ones are necessary and which ones can/must be deactivated.

Be very careful not to deactivate needed tasks.

If you haven't done this already you will see huge difference when junk like software automatic updates (other than anti-virus) is removed from the startup task list.

Good idea to save a restore point before you do this.

Actually, very little is in the startup msconfig. I've checked this already. Not a whole lot was even installed on that computer, as it is used primarily for trading.
