The pretty girl didn't make a trade for a whole week, and the supervisor had to push her to do so. He still waited a whole week to pass... By the way, what the hell was the supervisor doing all the time, because it didn't look like there was too much to supervise?
Sure you did. With 5K... Not to mention you don't even know just how fast the trade was executed, if it was at all....
emile, thanks for responding - pity they couldn't have shown some of the reasoning for trades *more so* than "hey, news happened, let's trade it!". i'm not expecting super complex stuff, or even stochastics, but something like a double bottom or double top would have been simple for someone to explain and understand. the show *is* better than most of the trading shows which have been out there..which tells more about how the trading shows wish to be portrayed. the part about being scared to trade, take a loss, the ecstasy after a win, those are all real feelings that most traders feel and have felt. learning something to trade is only a part of the battle; the rest is money management and the psychological process involved. there is some very good information on this site and several others. however, you have to wade through some garbage; you'll find people who sure sound like they know what they're doing, only to find out they've never traded successfully, and use the boards for a variety of reasons (shilling, making marketing contacts, ego, etc.) with that said, there are a fair number of full-time, successful traders on here.
Yeah, I think it was real - and phoning brokers to put a position on for you is not anything suspicious or uncommon. The lack of TA that made it onto the show (as Emile said, there will be alot of unseen footage) is a fair representation of how much TA is used in institutional desks... ... Emile, would you take us through one of your trades, from start to finish? For example, The kinds of research you did (for example, when you were buying brands that you liked, did you look at the balance sheets, forecasts, Beta etc...??) How long were you looking to keep a position on for? Were you restricted to Equities? Or could you trade Bond futures, spot currencies, commodities (Gold + Oil) ? I mean, what I would like to know is how you were trained to make a trade, what should you look at, and so on... And you say you are considering trading again? What is your general opinion of being a trader for a living? Thanks mate, good effort in the show.
What does that sound like? I'm not having a go, just saying that in the largely smoke-and-mirrors world of TV, they could just have all the trades go into a demo account, not let you guys be any the wiser so they can still film you feeling the pressures, the highs and lows etc., and thereby make the exact same TV show without risking any cash. That's what I'd do anyway.
Thanks emile - sounds like you were given some worthwhile training after all. Can I ask what return you made? What was your PnL for the whole series?
