I do not mean to say that this former turtle is good at what he does but there is a mr sands who claims to use turtle rules plus his own to get results even better than original turtles note ... some other original turtles claim he was not such a good trader but I do not know all I know is I once met RD and his brother TD ... I never met BE the other trader who had the orginal "bet" with RD on the turtles
I also read that Larry Williams is using the turtle technique in some of his trades, and is doing well.
As far as the Turtles methodolgy goes their entry and exit rules were very simple. Their performance excelled because of their money management (position sizing and also pyramiding). In order to trade their system you have to be willing to experience huge drawdowns and also huge "upside" volatility.. meaning being able to give back a huge amount of your unrealized profits on winning trades in order to try and capture an even bigger move. Trend following definitely works no matter what the neh sayers purport. The only reason it isn't widely accepted or acknowledged is because 95% of traders cannot stick to of follow the discipline necessary to execute a trend following system. Here's some performance results over a 10 year period of time for some trend followers. Some of these guys are original turtles.. 10 year performance: Compounded Rate of Return 20 of 27 are self-described Trend Followers... Larry goes Where the wind blows And drags his devotees by the nose. And yes, he makes lots But where are the customers' yachts?
As far as realtime trading goes with real money... I agree.. He couldn't even come close... He makes all of his money selling courses and seminars.. What turtles Methodology does Larry use?
I saw RD in the CBOT bar long time ago. When he came in people started murmuring - "Look there goes RD" - I looked up and I saw a whale of a guy, at least 350lbs. I wonder how that he is still alive with that weight. Further how can a guy be that disciplined in trading a system and completely ignore human health and looks in consideration for a love of cheeseburgers and cheetos.
Now this is directly from his website: A famous trading system I once paid $300,000 to learn - revealed to you in detail⦠Iâll even teach you my version of the âTurtle Trading Systemâ the method used by a group called the Turtles that collectively made over $181,000,000 in 2002. They currently manage about $1.4 Billionâ¦5 of the worldâs Top 10 Futures Managers are Turtles. People have paid $2,000 to learn this method. I paid $300,000 for this system and will teach it to you, just as one of the Original Turtles taught it to me, (plus my new and improved version). Youâll also get my hardbound book, âMarket Masteryâ subtitled, âThe Best Kept Secrets of the Experienced Traders.â
I haven't a clue, but I must say I could not care less, either way. As a man of "commerce," he'll sell you most dear The very words you wish to hear. The form they may take will not matter, For whatever they are, his wallet grows fatter. His method of choice is the seminar After which, no doubt, you will think you'll go far. For it is only when your account has been closed That you will come to know that you have been hosed. Yes, indeed, Larry makes lots But where, oh where, are the customers' yachts?
