turning off memory paging?

If I hv 1G of physical RAM, should I turn off paging to avoid frequent hard drive swapping?

It would depend on the mix of jobs running on the machine and what type of jobs etc. System performance is a complex topic and fiddling with this sort ot thing is probably not a good idea unless you know what you are doing. If you think pageing is slowing down your machine, why not take by far the easiest and best course and buy some more memory ?
