Yes, in hindsight there are plenty of stocks that went on big "rides". But it means nothing if you weren't lucky enough to have picked that stock and gotten in (and stayed in) for the ride. Which brings us back to the lottery.
I agree that is can be done. I am doing it. Don't ask, I won't tell. However, the 'right stocks' line is as contradictory as it is vague. The right stocks, for those who trade stocks, vary with time. Even with a given stock, take RIMM or APPL or MSFT or YHOO, different markets demand different systems to exploit those markets. And as seen in recent times, sweetheart stocks can dry up and die within months. Damn, I'm glad I trade futures. Less to remember, far fewer charts, quicker profits, less risk with money management. I trade on a laptop. Try doing that with stocks!
