I don't know how you expect him not to be. Have you not seen the huge accomplishments, the economy and the massive crowds? I understand Biden had 85 people at a rally the other day, whilst Trump had room for 20k tonight and 100k showed up.
Your last paragraph is exactly what I'm talking about. Trump could be a vulgarian and a douchebag and an asshole and whatever else if he was just doing what he said he would do. If he had begun work on an immigration solution that had a chance in hell of working. If he had held to positions prior to being elected on the Federal Reserve and promoted sound money. If, if, if. But he hasn't, so we're left with empty promises or broken promises AND the vulgarian. Now I will grant that a large part of his ineffectiveness is due to obstructionist democrats and the media, but the buck stops with the President. If he stopped tweeting his stupid antagonistic comments to everyone the people on the sidelines watching (me) would be a lot more forgiving of this. But he can't, because he is a megalomaniac. He can't just let stuff lie. If the fireman pulling you out of the burning house leaves you in the burning foyer, his character becomes more of a question.
Trump was always a showman living in the moment. If in the moment screaming something about jobs or the wall or immigration got him applause he was all for it. The "Lock her up" and "Mexico Will Pay for it" were just themes to get the ratings that week. When the crowd ate it up, that is all he lives for. Same tactic on the Apprentice. There never was any plans, I think he figured he had Bannon and others to push out ideas, even the Cabinet was thrown together ad hoc. I think GOP did not care because they just wanted control of the Congress and a President that would push their agenda. As Paul Ryan learned, Trump was not going to take a backseat to the party, he is bigger than the team. It is not a GOP thing it is a Trump narcissistic thing, which is why he cannot let anything just lie because no one or no topic can be allowed to best him. If a more stable GOP candidate won the nomination I still think they would have won (Maybe a Kasich type) given the Dem dysfunction. Also would not have lost the House in 2018. Problem is GOP cannot go with a new challenger and risk losing to a building base Dem so they are stuck supporting him. Tsing is describing acurately the situation the GOP is in which makes 2020 risky. Only thing saving them is Dems are shooting themselves in the foot again with 24 candidates and stupidity from the far left. If Dems let Bernie and AOC be the voice, they will lose so bad it will be laughable.
Because he won by narrowly carrying a handful of Rust Belt states that republicans never carry. He got working class white voters in those states to go out and vote for him because they thought he was in their corner, unlike the typical republicans. So now we get a standard, consultant-driven reelection plan involving screaming "socialist" and a lot of flag waving. These people don't give a crap about the stock market, tax cuts for billionaires or moving the embassy. They do care about their jobs, the opioid epidemic, crime and immigration overrunning their local schools, hospitals and jails. Other than force a few companies not to close plants, he's done pretty much fuck-all on those areas. In terms of these people's lives, the difference between him and Jeb or Hillary is minimal. They aren't going to vote against him. They just aren't going to bother to vote, just like they did with Mitt and McCain. The continuing tsunami of immigration tilts the field even more against republicans in general. Formerly safe states are suddenly very much in play. Ted Cruz barely won reelection running against an idiot. Illegals are openly encouraged to vote. The democrat vote fraud machine will be in overdrive, after suffering a humiliating defeat in 2016. Social media monopolists are not about to let an army of MAGA supporters do what they did in 2016 either. They have the internet locked down and ready to march in step with the rest of the media. I hope Trump wins, because I see him as the only thing standing between us and the entire country turning into Mexifornia, but at this point I see it as an uphill battle.
Trump is trying his best to stop illegal immigration. The wall could not properly get funded due to democrat votes. 'Catch and release' policy could not be amended same due to democrats' obstruction. At least now he got Mexico to stop some of them.
Trump had a Republican House and Senate for 2 years. He accomplished his top priority, tax cuts for the rich.
Not everyone in the republican party agreed with him on the border issue and probably not even one from democrats.
He could have told them wall and immigration before tax cuts.No wall and no immigration,no tax cuts.He gave them want they(and he) wanted without getting what y'all wanted.
