From my fav commenter on Seekingalpha, cparmeerle:

" Why is Musk trying to do this so fast?

That is a very key question that really wasn't pursued much in the podcast. Another way to phrase the question is "Why not build a lower volume of cars, build them to very high quality, establish a premiere car brand to be positioned for the time when more than 1% of the market wants EVs and the technology will permit a more profitable product?"

While the answer is fairly obvious, we really do need to say it out loud. Musk has created what amounts to a pyramid scheme. The schedules and volumes have nothing to do with the other carmakers as competition. He is running against the clock, and the clock is the huge overhang of debt and unfulfilled commitments by all three of his companies. Each quarter, he has to up the ante to keep investors playing along.

Another question on the podcast was when the bubble would burst, or what events might trigger the implosion. Another great question. We don't know. What we do know is that Q3 represents a crowning achievement -- the best work of Musk's storied lifetime -- at cooking the books in order to pull off the SCTY merger that represents a personal bailout for TSLA insiders and for the SpaceX corporation. Yet with all this financial gimmickry, they could only show a minuscule profit, and that was only achieved through the hoarding of ZEV credits."

Elon Musk's dream merger now a reality
The CEO and founder of both Tesla Motors and SolarCity got his wish on Thursday as shareholders of both companies approved a proposal for Tesla to buy out SolarCity for $2.1 billion in stock. About 85 percent of Tesla rank-and-file shareholders supported the deal, which many see as a big step towards a solar-powered electric car. (Wall Street Journal)

  3. Many unknowns for tesla/solar city are now known. Markets like clarity. Should trek onward and upward!

Finally, Tesla has done it (I mean the acquisition of SolarCity). Seems like we should expect a new page in the history of the company.

  5. I see long term as bullish. However, near term we might suffer a little more. Don't think the bottom is in yet, I will have cash ready. Just in case it got below $180 again. Bear seem to be in control after news of merger. Will add more if it get under $180

In fact, TSLA has a strong outlook in the long term. It's expected to be much better next year.

Tesla and SolarCity will construct solar power system on the island. I think this is a great start for both companies. And this idea looks promising.
