He has spent his entire life in the real estate industry as well as promoting himself. People in real estate speak in superlatives.........a nice little bungalow.......is a run down little home. Close to mass transit..........you won't be able to sleep from the subway rattling past your window etc.... Trade wars are won easier than shooting wars and if China would maintain the standards that they agreed to 3 months ago we would not be here today. Ditto for the EU, if they would agree to trade parity instead of trying to cave in to special interests, we would not have any conflicts. The U.S. does have the world's safest currency, that is why it is the world's reserve currency. In 5 years, the Euro will not exist. No other currency can compete with the dollar. China exports +/- $700BN to the U.S. every year and we export 70BN to them. They have much, much more to lose than us, therefore we hold all the cards. Farmers have suffered with the trade conflict, but the govt has stepped in to help them. People don't need a new iPhone but they need to eat. Just because China won't buy our grain someone else will. The world can only produce x bushels of wheat, corn and soybeans every year, but there are more people to feed every year. Short term pain for long term gain. Manufacturers are moving production facilities out of China to Vietnam and some are returning to the U.S. China has already lost many elements of the trade war that they won't get back. But one thing I will say for Trump.......unlike other politicians, he has done what he has said he would do. He has made progress towards building the wall, he has made efforts to reduce the price of prescription drugs, he has made efforts towards achieving peace with NK, he has been reasonable with Russia - they have not threatened us, he has been tactful dealing with Iran, he has reduced the tax burden for the U.S., he has done many good things for us. And I believe he will prosecute Comey and many others for their crimes of sedition and possibly treason. Don't believe everything you hear. CNN and other networks consistently cherry pick the remarks made by Trump and misrepresent remarks he has made. I don't understand how CNN, MSNBC and others remain in business. Why would anyone want to advertise with them? Trump is not perfect, but he is far superior to Hillary and Biden.
I would say the opposite is true. The U.S. dollar is the safest at the moment because it is still the reserve currency and there are consequently huge stores of dollar denominated assets and dollar foreign currency reserves in central banks around the world. There are forces at play that threaten to weaken the dollar's status as a reserve currency. Although i think it unlikely we will see anytime soon the kind of cooperation needed to replace the dollar for international trade with something like Keanes' proposed "Bancor", it is likely that some other currency, the Euro perhaps, will take on more and more the role of an alternative reserve currency. Currently the dollars reserve status is threatened by the rise of nationalism in the U.S.
I’d like it twice if possible lol. Very good education for the TDSers. Folks need to think independently. Very important. For every day life. For trading.
I am not familiar with Bancor, but I'll check it out. Russia and China have bought a lot of gold the last few years, so there may be a currency that is gold based, or it could be a confidence builder, just as the U.S. has 8000 tons of gold at Ft Knox. The gold will never be redeemed, but it's a heck of an asset to have on your balance sheet. But, I think the Euro is in its last days. The EU won't last much longer a few years and then, the Euro will be in the dustbin of history, just like a farthing or a Reichsmark. The dollar will get stronger. I don't think nationalism is a threat to the dollar. Every nation has a right to be proud of itself. If my nation depended on the U.S for its national defense, I would want the U.S. to be strong economically, militarily and spiritually. If we are weak and we falter, I sure hate it for the nations that depend on us. The U.S. constitutes 25% of the world's GDP. If we catch a cold, the world gets the flu. If a nation does not want the dollar to be the reserve currency and be the world's 911, then I suggest that that have a balanced budget, a sufficient metals inventory to support their currency and a military strong enough to repel potential adversaries such as Russia, China, ISIS, Hamas, Iran or any other nation that wants what you have. A lot of nations want to dethrone the U.S. But, if we aren't number one, the rest of the world will reminisce about the good 'ol days when we were.
