Trumps states he will withhold vaccine from blue states

  1. I watched it live. He didn’t say anything remotely close to what your lying liberal media articles say-

During remarks in the Rose Garden, Trump said a vaccine will be widely available by April, “with the exception of places like New York state, where for political reasons the governor decided to say … he wants to take his time with the vaccine. He doesn’t trust where the vaccine is coming from.”

So of course the media twists his statement, as they have done since the day he announced he was running for potus (remember- “all Mexicans are rapists” blatant lie?)

Trump Officials Reportedly Declined to Buy Extra Doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine
    https://www.complex.com/life/2020/1...uy-extra-doses-of-the-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine

With Americans making up about 20 percent of the global COVID-19 death toll, there’s no question that the U.S. government failed in its response to the pandemic. Now the Trump administration appears to be taking yet another L as the country gears up to roll out new vaccines.

According to a new report from the New York Times, Donald Trump’s team declined an offer from pharmaceutical company Pfizer to sell the government additional doses of its new COVID-19 vaccine in late summer. As a result, Pfizer may not be able to provide a larger quantity of its vaccine to the U.S., because of commitments the company made to other countries.

Pfizer is one of two companies currently waiting on emergency authorization for use of its vaccine. Last month the company revealed that test results indicated the vaccine is 90 percent effective. The vaccine is a two-dose treatment, meaning that the country’s current agreement of 100 million doses can be used to vaccinate 50 million Americans. Both Pfizer and fellow pharmaceutical company Moderna are expected to be approved for use by the FDA as soon as this coming weekend.

The Times reports that Trump officials are now scrambling to purchase more doses of the vaccine. Trump is expected to sign an executive order on Tuesday that will “ensure that United States government prioritizes getting the vaccine to American citizens before sending it to other nations.” It’s unclear how that order will expand the country’s access to new vaccines.

However, the Trump administration doesn’t seem worried about its ability to ensure that all Americans have access to the vaccine. “We are confident that we will have 100 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine as agreed to in our contract, and beyond that, we have five other vaccine candidates,” a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services told the Times.

Right now Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccines are the only treatments being reviewed for emergency use.

The European Union announced in November that it had purchased 200 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, along with an optional 100 million doses. Britain will begin administering vaccines beginning on Tuesday, becoming the first country in the EU to do so.

Confirmation despite the White House trying to deny it...

Gottlieb confirms Trump administration struck down Pfizer's offer to produce more COVID-19 vaccine doses
    https://www.alternet.org/2020/12/pfizer-vaccines/

Scott Gottlieb — the former U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner and current board member at Pfizer — confirmed the Trump administration did, indeed, strike down the drug manufacturer's offer to produce an additional 100 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

During an interview with CNBC, Gottlieb shed light on the manufacturer's discussions with the Trump administration last summer. At the time of the discussion when Pfizer signed its advance contract to deliver the first 100 million doses, the company opted to also sell to other countries, including sealing a deal to sell more than 200 million dose to the European Union.

"Pfizer did offer an additional allotment coming out of that plan, basically the second quarter allotment, to the U.S. government multiple times — and as recently as after the interim data came out and we knew this vaccine looked to be effective," Gottlieb confirmed.

Gottlieb continued, "I think the government made a bet that they are going to option or advance purchase vaccine from multiple manufacturers. They have agreements now with five or six manufacturers for about 100 million doses each manufacturer. They want to spread those bets."

Since Pfizer and Moderna are the only two drug manufacturers applying for FDA emergency authorization to distribute doses, vaccine supplies will likely be too limited to expedite vaccinations of the full U.S. population. Gottlieb also weighed in with his take on how the Trump administration may be viewing the process.

"I think they're betting that more than one vaccine is going to get authorized and there will be more vaccines on the market, and that perhaps could be why they didn't take up that additional 100 million option agreement."

Despite concerns about the scarcity of vaccine supplies, a Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson released a statement to the New York Times expressing confidence in their ability to deliver the doses agreed upon in the initial, contractual agreement.

"We are confident that we will have 100 million doses of Pfizer's vaccine as agreed to in our contract, and beyond that, we have five other vaccine candidates, including 100 million doses on the way from Moderna," the spokesperson said.

Since the full coronavirus vaccine is delivered in two separate doses, the initial 100 million will likely only be enough to inoculate 50 million Americans. With a U.S. population of more than 350 million people, it could be several months before there are enough doses for the entire country.

    Guess Trump can't do math...

Trump uses Germany's recent COVID-19 death spike to attack those who held it up as a model, despite the country's significantly lower death rate
    https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-germanys-covid-19-death-spike-tweet-2020-12
    • President Donald Trump highlighted Germany's spike in COVID-19 deaths in a Wednesday tweet arguing that Germany's pandemic response wasn't a model for the US.
    • Germany still appears to be faring much better than the US, however, in terms of deaths both as a percentage of known cases and as a percentage of the population.
    • The US has recorded 87.49 deaths per 100,000 people, while Germany has recorded 24.12 deaths per 100,000 people, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
President Donald Trump pointed to Germany's spike in COVID-19 deaths in a Wednesday tweet arguing that his "obnoxious critics" wrongly held up Germany's pandemic response as a model for the US.

"Germany has consistently been used by my obnoxious critics as the country that we should follow on the way to handle the China Virus," Trump tweeted, sharing an Associated Press story about Germany's surge in virus deaths. "So much for that argument. I love Germany - Vaccines on the way!!!"

On Wednesday, Germany reported 590 deaths from the virus over the past 24 hours — the country's highest death count in one day during the pandemic. The European country is seeing a spike in COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations after maintaining one of the lowest death rates in Europe.

But Germany's rates of COVID-19 deaths both as a percentage of known coronavirus infections and as a percentage of the country's population remain much lower than the US's. The US has reported 87.49 deaths per 100,000 people, while Germany has reported 24.12 deaths per 100,000 people, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. And the US death rate from COVID-19 is 1.9%, while Germany's is 1.6%.

Trump has previously made misleading comparisons between the US and Germany. In May, Trump claimed that the US mortality rate, which at the time was 24.66 deaths per 100,000 people, and Germany's mortality rate, which then was 9.24 per 100,000, were the best in the world. In fact, a slew of other countries had lower mortality rates at the time.

On Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Germans to abide by stricter virus-related regulations and called the latest numbers "very alarming." But Merkel doesn't have the power to issue national restrictions, as each of the country's 16 state governments are responsible for issuing and implementing their own lockdown policies.

We are glad Trump (as president) has moved on from our lives. He killed over 500,000 Americans as president.

Hopefully he moves on to the point where we never hear his name mentioned again.
