Will the Republicans go down with the MAGA ship?

'MAGA breaking point': Trump's former lawyer flags 'the thing that sinks his presidency'
    https://www.rawstory.com/cohen-trump-musk-breaking-point/

Donald Trump's former lawyer on Sunday warned the President that voters will take revenge at the ballot box for a purported "war on the poor."

While Trump has enjoyed a consistently strong base of support, that support is not endless, according to Trump's ex-lawyer and "fixer" Michael Cohen.

Writing for his Substack blog, Cohen said, "Here we have a man; Trump, who rode to power on the backs of working-class voters, aligning himself with another man, Musk, who thinks government assistance is a joke and that ordinary people should simply bootstrap their way out of medical debt. It’s the kind of stupid plotline you would find in a South Park episode and laugh your a-- off because of its absurdity."

But Musk and Trump are not going to be riding high forever, according to Cohen's essay.

"But here’s where the story takes a turn: Trump will soon learn that his support isn’t infinite. His base might be rabid, but even the most die-hard MAGA voter has a breaking point," Cohen wrote on Sunday. "And when grandma’s Social Security check disappears, when their Medicaid is yanked away, when the reality of Musk’s economic war on the poor sets in; who do you think they’re going to blame?"

Cohen went on to say that, while "Trump can try to shift responsibility" and scream "fake news," "the math doesn’t lie."

"You screw over 72.5 million people, and you pay the price," he then added. "Unfortunately, [Americans] will suffer. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel…Musk’s economic jihad against working Americans will be the thing that sinks Trump’s presidency and the Republican party. And for once, the chaos will actually work in the favor of the American people."

Uh, no. The laughter is with the circus which is the US these days. Trump promised lower prices starting day one of his Presidency. Instead, he's igniting inflation very rapidly. There is no desperation from me; no meaningful impact in my life at all except my daughter will likely get a tax break funded by the rest of you Americans.

As for winning in this environment, I no longer need to work either. Fully paid off mortgage, new car bought with cash, no kids to raise any more. We can weather the short term fine and if I trade it well more than fine. The point is not can myself or yourself weather Trump's nonsense. It's the younger people and people not set up financially in precarious work. He's going to hurt a lot of people and he doesn't care because he's an asshole living for the infamy. You can be an asshole here all you want there is no point to it except to highlight you are a selfish person who doesn't care about others.

No time to make this one pretty, but...

MAGA is just a sentiment, the real troublemakers today are the puppeteers and their ideology of libertarianism. The Heritage Foundation, Project 2025, Reaganism, Laffer Curve, Peter Thiel, Musk et. al., and so on.
    1) Government is too big.
    2) If government shrinks, see #1.
    They're simpletons.

That's one thing. Another is that they can simply put more money in their accounts if government is circulating less to the working class.

So is Trump's plan simply to blame Musk for everything.... and say "I didn't do that, Elon did that" while trying to evade all responsibility? That's not going to work very well for Trump when people aren't getting their social security checks.

Because honestly, it gets old trying to have the same old conversations with folks so opposed to actually listening to anything or having an honest discussion. So why try?

Just let the forum be 75% GWB spam and 20% Orange Man Bad mixed with a side of snark (which is a slightly different flavor of GWB spam) with 5% of some, possibly, meaningful discussion.

None of it will change that we've got slightly less than 4 years of Trump left. So buckle up, and get some tissues if you're upset.
