The Bible, its very thick :)

Being tall sucks most of the time. I have a cousin who is a full 7' and he flies a lot.. Jesus.. I'm six inches below that and I'm broken by long non first class flights.

Looks like Kimmy had some bleaching done!

Same with regular coffee brewing. I let the kettle boil and trip off then wait about 30 seconds until its just over 200 deg-F.

I ditched my Technivorm years ago (you can't clean inside those things properly) and have been doing pour-overs for a few years now. A little fiddly but the result is good.

But recently I ordered a "Clever Dripper" and it was one of the last packages I received before the postal service locked down. It holds the coffee in the dripper to steep until you place it on top of a cup or carafe.

You leave the coffee in the dripper for about 4 minutes. Its something like a French Press with a filter... sort of. Very tasty coffee. I've turned on a few friends to this bit of plastic magic. It make 16-ounces maximum and uses regular #4 paper filters.

Is the rum good in Columbia? Rum was so bad in Brazil and Fr.Guiana. It was made from grapes not cane. Awful stuff. I'd gotten the idea that good rum did not exist in S.America.

You've got me looking for interesting instant coffees. Many more brands here than in the USA.

  4. By you it is mainly Seco which is a sugar cane drink and it is more like peasant vodka.

there is a new Rum made in panama by a former Cuban rum maker called Cana Brava. Supposed to be like Havana Club,,,

I think we discussed before but Colombian basic dark rum is alright, comes in ages by years 3, 5, 8 etc. Ron Caldas, Medellín and others but the best I have had (and cheapest 7 dollars a bottle about in Mexico was I believe from Honduras). Kicking myself I never photographed the bottle(s).

There are a couple of pricey rums here but are they that much better? Hard to say. Mind you I often make spiced rum for Christmas so a good basic 3 year is fine.

I'm not a fan of the typically bitter Colombian coffee (many are) mind you the national coffee park is worth a visit especially with kids, shows, horse riding, usual theme park stuff and cable cars in and out.

When guests arrive for a dinner party I have this infusor device I got as a present, I was told its Japanese (it was made there) but can't say for certain on the design. Looks cool anyway and burns a little alcohol to power the process. Happen to have a video, a couple of stills explain it.

  6. That's an interesting contraption. I looked up a video on YouTube:

A bit more sophisticated than the sort of cup coffee maker I used years ago:

I have a few different types of coffee makers (espresso, French), none of them high end, but I just can't be bothered with them. I limited my coffee intake by only having it at cafes. And now Here4money and Bugenhagen are going to make me a caffeine fiend all over again with this instant business.

  7. Cool looking contraption, but it looks like an exercise in patience.

I'm honestly too lazy to go through all that trouble when the instant cup is going to be better (to my taste) anyway. I'd thumb my nose at some Mexican college buds who drank clasico as I grew up drinking coffee maker folgers. They laughed in my face when they drank it. Fun times eating some humble pie & learning in those moments that coffee snobbery just seemed like a bunch of BS that I'll likely never understand.

I can drink black or sweetened if forced on me but mine's always sweet with milk. I'll do a starbucks Americano or a timmy's dark roast but besides the different taste, I can't convince myself it's better than the insta I got at home.

I try to limit my intake to 16-ounces which is a medium sized travel cup.

One thing I learned recently is that dark roasts have the least caffeine and light roasts have the most. The Starbucks blonde roasts are really strong. The have some sun-roasted coffees here and when things open up I want to rent a car and check out some farms.

What I noticed before the lockdown here is that people tend to go out to cafes for brewed coffee and drink instant at home.

It is more of a conversation piece but just 10 minutes from start to finish. I have a few pure alcohol run things. The faint smell of the alcohol burn gets people interested in tiramisu.

I just wished it was designed to flip on its pivot to pour rather than undo the top but its neat anyway.
