“He’s an idiot. It’s pointless to try to convince him of anything. He’s gone off the rails. We’re in Crazytown. I don’t even know why any of us are here. This is the worst job I’ve ever had.”

    — White House chief of staff John Kelly, quoted in Fear: Trump in the White House, about President Trump.

    Except it never happened:

Kelly denies calling Trump an ‘idiot,’ says news report is ‘pathetic attempt to smear people’

Cue to military-hating leftists to call a distinguished retired Marine four-star general a liar....

  3. I'm surprised that his critics showed such restraint. I would not have been quite as disciplined.

  6. And here is Defense Secretary James Mattis in Woodward's book.

James Mattis says Trump has ‘acted like — and had the understanding of — a fifth grader’: Bob Woodward

An explosive new book by legendary Watergate reporter Bob Woodward claims that Defense Secretary James Mattis holds President Donald Trump in very low esteem — and he has had to scramble just to prevent the president from sparking “World War III.”

In an excerpt of Woodward’s new book leaked to the Washington Post, Woodward writes that Mattis has told his associates that Trump “acted like — and had the understanding of — a fifth- or sixth-grader” during a meeting on military forces in the Korean Peninsula.

During the meeting, Trump questioned why the United States was spending any money in the region at all. Mattis had to explain to him that America’s military presence in South Korea allowed it to better monitor North Korea’s missile activities. Among other things, he told Trump that having a presence in Korea allowed the U.S. to detect a missile launch just seven seconds after it occurred — whereas it usually takes 15 minutes to detect such launches from American military bases in Alaska.

“We’re doing this in order to prevent World War III,” Mattis explained to the president.

According to Woodward, the exchange with Trump left Mattis “exasperated and alarmed.”

And Mattis isn’t alone — according to Woodward, many Trump advisers have been unnerved during their interactions with the president.

  7. Trump’s staff staged a ‘coup’ to stop him from destroying nation: Woodward

President Donald Trump’s own staff staged a quiet “coup” to prevent “a nervous breakdown of the executive power of the most powerful country in the world,” according to a new book by Pulitzer-winning Watergate reporter Bob Woodward.

In the upcoming book, Fear: Trump in the White House, several former staffers admit to having stolen documents off Trump’s desk before he could see them and make tragic errors.

In one case, an aide swiped a letter that would have withdrawn the U.S. from a trade agreement with South Korea that affects our ability to monitor North Korean nukes.

“I stole it off his desk,” former chief economic adviser Gary Cohn said, according to the report. “I wouldn’t let him see it. He’s never going to see that document. Got to protect the country.”

Former staff secretary Rob Porter said he also stole documents off the Resolute desk.

“A third of my job was trying to react to some of the really dangerous ideas that he had and try to give him reasons to believe that maybe they weren’t such good ideas,” Porter reportedly said.

Woodward doesn’t mince words on the actions, calling them, “no less than an administrative coup d’état.”

  8. If this is remotely true, Cohn should be prosecuted and sent to Leavenworth for treason. Trump was the one elected President, not some pompous GS asshole. Good riddance.

  9. I'd say Mattis comes off as the moron. The idea that we have to have 50k troops in SK and a trade pact that lets them eat our lunch to prevent WW III is the worst sort of Bush-era globalist lunacy. I wonder if Mattis is aware we have satellites and ships that can monitor every time the NK leadership takes a crap. We also have an ally, Japan, right next door.

Mattis is either a fool or so old school he doesn't understand modern warfare, which wouldn't surprise me. Throughout history, the military brass have been consumed with two things, protecting their personal turf and fighting the last war.
