No, this is not another flu strain. China is showing 3.5% mortality, Italy is showing 5%. You are grossly underestimating the seriousness of the situation we are in. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
He took the easy way out, after complaining about market bubbles on the campaign trail. After all, it was always going to be easier to conflate the stock market bubble as a genuine indicator for some sort of economic achievement. The vast majority always have, and always will, confuse the economy and the markets. Now, it's going to bite him in a big way. Not hard to see that.
S Korea is less than 1%. They have better medical access and...... Note there are 2 major strains of SARs-Cov-2. S and L. S is milder, L much more virulent and accounted for most +/- 70% of the serious cases in Wuhan. I’d have to go back and check but I believe it’s the “L” strain that's doing damage in Iran. Big majority of the cases we are seeing here in the states are S strain. https://nextstrain.org/ https://academic.oup.com/nsr/advance-article/doi/10.1093/nsr/nwaa036/5775463?searchresult=1
Let’s hope we have the milder strain. Scientists were theorizing the more severe strain was petering out. South Korea tested the hell out of hot spots and treated the cases early in the disease. Testing makes all of the difference from every standpoint.
What I came here to say this time is that the Secretary of Health just stated at press conference he has no idea how many people in America has been tested! He is obviously lying but is it because the infection rate is high or because the testing rate is so low?
Fatality rate is dependent on several factors, not just the bug. Regardless of how you feel politically, we have the greatest access to quality medical services in the world. It’s dysfunctional at times but we have the infrastructure in place to treat a bunch of folks.
???? How many people who need to be tested? We can count how many “have been”, what we need is quick and accurate testing in the public so when someone goes to the Doc, they can be screened, tested immediately and isolated if needed. Actually if you’re experiencing symptoms, you’re sick you need to isolate yourself now. Call your doctor and ask directions on what to do. Don't just walk your diseased carcass into a medical facility. Testing needs to be done outside, tent or some temporary secondary area away from other patients
I read some coverage somewhere that said that the more severe L strain was sort of a mixed bag/blessing. On one hand it it was more lethal/serious, but on the other hand, its severity made it easier to chase down and contain much earlier. People who got it sought and needed help much much earlier in the process so they didn't drift around town for weeks before seeking help. Iran seems to be a worst case scenario where they have a severe strain but have done every stupid thing possible to keep it going. The town with the worst outbreak is also a religious holy site and people just continue to come from all over the country day after day to gather, get kissy faced and take the virus home. As far as I can tell the virus has the Iranians working overtime for it to do its work.
Actually you just want to be able test community-wide, and keep testing. For example, everyone at the c pac conference should have already been tested just to find the 2 or 3 people who may have been infected. We should be running through tens of thousands of tests a day by now.
Understand the virus often times is undetectable for several days. You can be exposed, test negative and later test positive. While quick detection will slowdown the spread, early false negatives will do tremendous damage. For the moment, If you’ve been exposed, isolate for the needed time 14 days regardless of testing
