just because you wiki Google a.phrase doesn't mean you understand. A 10-16% VAT is not the same as adding a 40% tariff... please...
I never said China doesn't pay the tariffs that US imposes. I only asked: Are you able to answer that? The answer is no. Because you know the trade between US and China is not equitable. The tariffs that's imposed on Chinese goods imported into the US market is far less than the tariffs that China imposes on the goods that US exports to China.
Yes I remember the label "Made In the USA" with the mini US flag. That used to be a symbol of quality. Whenever you see that label, you know you can trust the quality of that product bearing that label and you know it's going to last you at least 10 years not like the products that you buy today that breaks after just few months. Yup those were the good old days. My mom still has clothes in her closet with that label from 20+ years ago and they are still good as new. And then gradually starting around 1990's, that "Made In the USA" just disappeared. Would be nice if Trump can bring that label back again.
Trade is not equitable because US exports it manufacturing to China and then imports back into the country as finished goods. This is a choice made by the American consumer and producer. Apple chose to move production to Asia because it is CHEAPER to produce these products in China than in the U.S. U.S. labor costs and taxes will not allow Apple or Dell to make these products in the U.S. and compete. Stop blaming China which only imposes a 10-16% VAT tax on U.S. goods coming in which were already much more expensive than domestically produced goods. (All goods imported into China are subject to the nation's value-added tax (VAT) of either 13 percent or 17 percent) The U.S. can put a 10-16% tax if it wants. But thinking 25%...40% or 60% tariffs are going to make it fair or equitable is beyond ignorant. AMERICANS WANT CHEAP SHIT...always have and always will. U.S. has been a global leader in services which is why it has a SERVICES TRADE SURPLUS (The U.S. has a services trade surplus, which means it exports more services than it imports. In 2023, the U.S. services trade surplus was $278.4 billion, the highest since 2019). As of September 2024, the U.S. goods trade balance was a deficit of about $108 billion. This is a simple economic premise that is lost on most Americans. The reason we have Walmart, Target, Costco, Dollar stores is because Americans want products they can afford. These stores are more profitable and prolific than high end stores and it is not surprising the Best Buys and fancy electronic stores are losing out to Costco, Amazon etc.. Putting high tariffs on Asian goods and demanding buy America is raising the cost of goods to Americans and a tax on Americans. Plain and simple. If the U.S. made superior TVs, then we would be owning Phillips flat screens. Rather than repeat FOX news messages, look at the bigger picture. We are a goods deficit economy and will always be so because it costs too much money to make shit here for the most part but we are a leader in services. Adding 40% tariffs to China simply makes all the stuff Americans buy more expensive but does not create a "fair" trade. US exports do not sell in China well except for some agricultural goods such as soy beans because our stuff is too expensive or China can get it from other surrounding countries cheaper. If you are proud to buy US then go buy US but dont make the shit I want to buy more expensive. You do not really care about the American worker because your house would not be filled with Asian made phones, TVs, clothes, electronics, appliances, toys, utensils, etc...
Found your problem...China does not pay tariffs when US imposes tariffs. You said you didnt say that but....there it is...
what counts most is comparing final cost of goods Net after tariffs, VAT and any other expenses. great topic
Tariffs is the one Trump policy I'm super pumped about. It will be bad for those around me, but it willl be good for me. And I will sleep well knowing that they are 100% supportive of this.
President Abraham Lincoln once said, "…when we buy manufactured goods abroad, we get the goods and the foreigner gets the money. When we buy the manufactured goods at home, we get both the goods and the money." He is arguably America's most popular president, and he was absolutely correct. Let's spend our dollars on American-made goods from American-owned companies to keep jobs, profits, and tax revenue in the USA. ...Roger Simmermaker
