From that beacon of the right...The Washington Post End presidential term limits In 1947, Sen. Harley Kilgore (D-W.Va.) condemned a proposed constitutional amendment that would restrict presidents to two terms. “The executive’s effectiveness will be seriously impaired,” Kilgore argued on the Senate floor, “ as no one will obey and respect him if he knows that the executive cannot run again.” I’ve been thinking about Kilgore’s comments as I watch President Obama, whose approval rating has dipped to 37 percent in CBS News polling — the lowest ever for him — during the troubled rollout of his health-care reform. Many of Obama’s fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the reform and from the president. Even former president Bill Clinton has said that Americans should be allowed to keep the health insurance they have. Or consider the reaction to the Iran nuclear deal. Regardless of his political approval ratings, Obama could expect Republican senators such as Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and John McCain (Ariz.) to attack the agreement. But if Obama could run again, would he be facing such fervent objections from Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Robert Menendez (D-N.J.)? Contined... https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...6ed03681809_story.html?utm_term=.3b07d1f9b845
Arnie.. well done, not one mention of a sore male ass since it was pointed out that you talk about that far too much. You may be a half-wit but it shows that you can change your behavior.
Term limits are essential to preserve our democracy. Would you want another 4 years of Obama or Bush??? Same obviously about Trump. Trump took nepotism and lying to a level not see in white house for a very long time if not ever (not familiar with all administrations of 19th century). How can anyone defend no due process (not imaginable, Trump said it on camera few days ago) and king ship????? Imagine just for a second if Obama said it, GOP would start impeachment. But their dear leader Trump get what they call "muligan".
I believe in term limits (especially for congress & senators) however continuity which aids long term planning is a major advantage now for Russia and Xi. They have disadvantages also of course. The US two party system produces the foreign policy equivalent of bipolar disorder. American advisors have screwed over a massive list of peoples when inevitably a new President or Congress is voted in. China and Russia have what they need to get through the massive resource grab that near exponential population growth is about to bring and few are think about (except China and Russia). If you are an African country, rich in resources.. I know for a fact that many did a deal with China as they will be the same group in 10 years.
I gotta keep it real here.... Had Obama said "take the firearms first and then go to court” .... holy molly..... I can't even fathom what would have would have went down. There would have been some kind of major civil unrest.
Well said, China is stalking the world for rights to future resources and will eventually hold feet to fire to acquire. They continue expansion of economic/ military power unabated. http://dailycaller.com/2018/03/03/c...ing-its-plan-for-a-military-base-in-pakistan/ Would the U.S. have the balls to do this? https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-03-03/ukraine-freezes-after-russia-halts-gas-deliveries Americans busy themselves with trivia, he said, she said while the larger reality that will impact their futures in untold ways unfolds in front of their glazed over eyes. Even the Saudis are entering the game. http://theantimedia.org/maldives-china-saudi-arabia-uae/
You're right. We would have gone nuts. But it would have been in the context of a president, Obama, who had repeatedly expressed contempt for constitutionally mandated separation of powers. Trump made the remark in the context of expressing frustration with getting guns out of the hands of mentally ill people. The principled objection to this, on both the right and left, is that you cannot deprive a person of constitutional rights without due process, ie a judicial determination. It's a difficult problem and Trump came down on the side of public safety versus constitutional rights.
I can see that. Trump constantly says all kinds of things that are easily taken out of context and this gets him in trouble. This sound bite, like dozens of others he's served up on a silver platter, will be used against him in the future by those in the business of making political attack ads. He makes their job very easy. No lack of material to craft their intended spin. ___________________________________________________________ ( Man's voice): ----"Trump says he supports the Second Amendment.... but when pressed on the issue he stated he 'wants to take your guns away without due process'". ---- (Insert sound bite with unflattering picture) ------"Can we really trust Donald Trump to protect our 2nd Amendment rights"? ------"Can we trust Donald Trump at all"? _________________________________________________________________
In my view, Trump has the Right in his pocket, as they don't have a better alternative. But he needs to get enough independents on board if he has any chance of prevailing.
