Mexican Riot Cops Deployed For Caravan Showdown After Trump Snaps Fingers

Mexico deployed hundreds of riot police on Thursday to intercept a caravan of more than 4,000 Central American migrants, following demands by President Trump that Mexio, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador intervene before he has to deploy US troops.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!” Trump Tweeted Thursday morning.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to cut off aid to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador if they "allow their citizens, or others, to journey through their borders and up to the United States."

Mexico said in a Thursday statement that it would also seek assistance from the United Nations refugee agency for help coordinating with Central American governments of countries from which the migrants originated.

Hundreds of federal police in riot gear fanned out on the international bridge in Suchiate, on the Mexican-Guatemalan border, as the caravan of several thousand Honduran migrants trekked toward the crossing.

Guatemala also sent police reinforcements to its side of the border, after Trump threatened to cut aid to the region, deploy the military and close the US-Mexican border if the migrants were allowed to continue.

A first group of several hundred migrants arrived late Wednesday in the border town of Tecun Uman, Guatemala, where they overflowed a local shelter, leaving many to sleep in the town square or on the street, an AFP correspondent said. -AFP

The new caravan, which began in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula with 150 migrants, is the second caravan from Honduras this year. The first caravan was largely disbanded, though a few asylum seekers successfully made it to US soil and were taken into custody.

That was a top rhetorical trick right there.

A favorite tactic among slightly ethically challenged lawyers or those appearing in front of favorable judges.... When you have no facts, nor any law and you have to argue a motion or appeal...

Go with the I don't know what they are talking about because they were not specific enough and then jump over to a vague a strawman and then knock it down with a fact free amorphous argument.

I have to say... that was a pretty sophisticated tactic. Not sure that even Piezoe the master of lefty rhetoric has pulled that one off.

  4. Or rather, how previous administrations failed to enforce the borders and overstays such that there are 22 million and many who need deporting. The goal is not to have a lot deportations. Obama allowed lots in so that there were lots of undesireables to choose from to deport. All sounds good if your goal is deportation. If you are interested in the net number- not so much.

And yes illegal entries have been down and then up under Trump just as they were under Obama. Except Trump has consistently tried to get congress- especially but not limited to dems- to change the rules of the game to give him the authority to exclude more and deport more. Obama and your ilk want to go in the other direction.

Note that that 22 million number that is now used has been 11 million for a long time and then was just revised up a couple months ago. Who the frig knows how many illegals are here. And, as discussed, the illegals crank out citizens who dont get counted as part of the impact of allowing the invasion.

Gonna be ugly after the midterms if/probably the dems win. Trump wont be able to put any reform package together but he will still have power to veto anything the dems want. And then daca will take a hit at the Court at some point when the cases on appeal arrive. Ugly. Remember what I told you and your ilk wayy back- ie. you should have accepted Trumps ungawdly generous DACA proposal...but as I said "We know you can fuck it up." And fuck it up you did.

  5. The Mexicans know if Trump deploys the military, there go the cartel smuggling routes. They're not risking that, not for a bunch of foreigners.

  6. This entire episode plays to both parties' prejudices.

For the dems, a heartless president bullied smaller brown-skinned neighbors into committing crimes against humanity.

For the republicans, the Leader of the Free World served notice on third world leeches to get their houses in order or suffer the consequences.

In the United States there are approximately 40,000 homeless veterans and 15 million children living in poverty. And yet demrats care more about this migrant caravan of a few thousand non-citizens.

  8. That's because the migrant invaders are potential new voters... legal or otherwise.

  9. Trump should have done this nearly 2 years ago.

Pardon the cynic in me... but I wonder if he held off until this moment so that the action would be fresh in the news and in the minds of voters for the mid-terms...??

  10. So we're to believe that thousands of illegals have decided to make the journey right before the election, and with camera crews to document their travels? Not only are leftists indifferent to this invasion, they're financing it. This is who we want at the helm? Na, I think I'll stick with Trump and all his flaws for now.
