If you think assembling iPhone's is a dignified middle class job you either haven't the first clue what that entails or your definition of a dignified middle class job is in another universe from mine!
We are not talking about iphones, imports or exports. We are talking about what once was considered the backbone of America standing around doing nothing or working at a low wage at a job a computer could do better. That's the issue. That's what Trump is addressing. And not just him, Nigel Farage in UK and the whole populist movement. The poor you will always have with you. But when it's white men who had all the advantages in life it's a problem. An iphone is just an image, and when that image starts to represent men out of work apple has a problem.
The populist movement is happening all over Europe now. We are living in interesting times. It will be very interesting to see how the world develops over the next 10 years.
So do you want crappy factory jobs back or don't you? Sounds like you, as sadly is the case with most populists on either side, haven't thought things through and have an extremely shallow, black and white view of the world. This is why populists seldom create or improve, only criticize and destroy value.
Trumps rhetoric on employment can only come true if Americans are will to accept a lower standard of living. the price of strawberries will have to be like 3-4x (a made up number) to compensate "white men who had all the advantages" to take that kind of job. And this will be true of almost all mass market industries. if I ran a manufacturing plant in the USA, I would be personally eager to see barriers go up. Demand will be high and manufacturing capacity almost non-existent in many markets and it will take decades to rebuild it.
No, we haven't thought things through. Life was so hard all we could think about was the next quarter. Everybody was so big that one penny made a huge difference in financial results. Every decision was made based on share price. Of course I would outsource and the employees left behind are none of my concern now because they are no longer needed. Money and more of it was the supreme good. Now Trump has a lot of money and is President and he figures, what good is my money if I am living in a crappy country? If you want to be cynical and all mind game psycho, he needs a vibrant and healthy ordinary Joe middle class because those are the people his lifestyle is designed to impress. Is it possible to make water flow uphill? I don't know. All our government policies have been designed to take money from the rich and give it to the poor and hope water flows uphill, but all it has done is create a swamp. Populism attempts to make water flow uphill by giving everybody a bucket and bringing back the old bucket brigade. That's the way we use to do it in the good old days.
%% For starters search ''XOM'' ; FOX news says 45,000 jobs......................................................
ExxonMobile has only 80,000 employees worldwide, built up over the last 100 years. You think Trump is magically going to increase their headcount by 50%, by adding supply to an existing oil glut no less! Take a minute to think for yourself and apply some independent thought, good grief!
