Trump to Comey: You're fired.

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Tsing Tao, May 9, 2017.

  1. Honestly, I thought Comey deserved to be fired for multiple offenses but I also think it should have been handled with more finesse. He should have been brought in and told frankly that his time was over. Perhaps events had thrust him into an impossible ethical dilemma and he did do what he thought was the right thing. Unfortunately, he grossly overstepped the limits of his office in doing so. The one thing we cannot have is an FBI director who is accountable to no one and seen to be pursuing quixotic vendettas.

So Comey could have been encouraged to resign for the good of the country and he could have walked off in a blaze of glory, something he seems to have quite a taste for.

The fact that Trump, no stranger to firing people, chose instead to do it in a publicly humiliating and demeaning manner, even though he had to realize it would make him look impetuous at best, speaks volumes. This was personal and he wanted Comey to suffer.

I can only speculate but I think the reasons were threefold. One, Trump was furious that Comey refused to investigate the leaks, which remain the only known criminal conduct in this entire affair. Two, Trump had grown frustrated with the never-ending investigations, which had produced nothing but whose continue existence seemed to validate the "Russians stole the election" narrative. Third, the new Deputy AG Rosenstein was able to substantiate Comey's manifold errors and abuses of power.

The media are desperate to relive their long gone glory days of Watergate when they lynched another hated republican president. Times have changed however, and the public is far more aware of media bias and democrat mendacity. There will be no special counsels and in a week or so, this will be ancient history.

The endless loop, What evidence do you have? None, that's why we need to investigate. It's obvious Hillary didn't just lose, there has to be something more to it. What do you think about Obamacare? Don't change the subject, what's important is the Russians used Trump to defeat Hillary.
Listening to a democrat explain a scandal is worse than listening to their economic plan.

I applaud this offensive move. Nothing can happen to Trump as long as there is/was no Russian collusion to steal the election. Trump is in a position to know that. Fine, get your own special council who will never find anything. But give the FBI back to the people, to do the really important work. The purpose of the Russian story is not so much to find anything (they know they won't), but to keep an investigation open for four years hoping to find ANYTHING, much the same way Ken Star found something on Clinton, but not what he originally set out to find. I applaud the push back on such dishonesty.

  8. That's a good point (see what I did there, LOL). The neo cons and dems also like having this over Trump's head because it effectively freezes relations with Russia at a very dangerous level of hostility. Anything positive Trump attempts, they will immediately latch onto as evidence of Russian influence.

The thing about special council's appointed to investigate republicans is that someone will go to jail. A special council was appointed to investigate the bogus plume leak and scooter libby went to jail even though he didn't have anything to do with it. Colin Powell's underling was the one that did what the democrats were determined to find out about. Nothing happened to him, though. They put someone in prison that had nothing to do with it because they claimed he wasn't honest with the investigator. And of course he was close to Dick Cheney. Joe Digenova said that Libby was told that if he gave them Dick Cheney, it would all go away. But he had nothing to give, because Colin Powells underling was the one that did the thing that democrats wanted to use as an excuse to get Cheney. So they let the guy who did the thing that gave them the excuse to go after Cheney go free and put Cheney's confidont in prison.

That's how the special prosecutor thing works in wash. When it's appointed to investigate a republican, that is.

Trump should go petal to the metal with his campaign agenda and then when they try to impeach him, he can just say they're trying to stop his agenda.
As it is, when they get a dem majority in congress, he's as good as impeached, and who's going to stand up for him.
