A free press that fabricates stories using the ever present "unnamed sources"to undermine our democracy most certainly is a threat, and that's just what they've been doing.
Journalism sometimes requires reporters to protect their sources. Sometimes they even go to jail protecting them. This is a very American right. The fact that you stand against a free press tells me the right wing is becoming less and less American.

The genius Founders recognized that a "diligent and honest" press was essential to the survival and success of our democratic republic. Used to be, the press was all of that. Now days, however, the press is a propaganda arm of the Leftists.... nothing "free" about it at all.
I've come to hate what passes as news programming in today's world. No one allows people to make up their own minds by presenting the facts anymore. Everyone is pushing the narrative they feel their viewership wants to hear to maximize ratings. Truly unbiased news reporting doesn't seem to exist anymore. The 1st amendment is extremely important. But intentionally misleading and even fabricated news reporting is dangerous.
