LuisHK, this is the chart for Spain. ALL deaths are taken in account. Watch the overdeath rate. It gives an indication about the number of Covid-19 deaths.
Preliminary Estimate of Excess Mortality During the COVID-19 Outbreak — New York City, March 11–May 2, 2020 https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6919e5.htm .......... "During March 11–May 2, 2020, a total of 32,107 deaths were reported to DOHMH; of these deaths, 24,172 (95% confidence interval = 22,980–25,364) were found to be in excess of the seasonal expected baseline. Included in the 24,172 deaths were 13,831 (57%) laboratory-confirmed COVID-19–associated deaths and 5,048 (21%) probable COVID-19–associated deaths, leaving 5,293 (22%) excess deaths that were not identified as either laboratory-confirmed or probable COVID-19–associated deaths (Figure). The 5,293 excess deaths not identified as confirmed or probable COVID-19–associated deaths might have been directly or indirectly attributable to the pandemic. The percentages of these excess deaths that occurred in persons infected with SARS-CoV-2 or resulted from indirect impacts of the pandemic are unknown and require further investigation." ..........
Thanks for the chart, it gives an idea, actually the overdeath count was higher than the covid deaths in Spain. Many were suspecting the covid fatalities were undercounted, than it came out heart attacks deaths doubled during the quarantine ( link posted yesterday) and lack of care did quite some damage as well (again 550 000 surgeries cancelled in 2 months for a country of slightly less than 50million which had already long queues for surferies, public sector cancelled most face to face meetings, it s still difficult to get one. Private sector doing better ime. Many doctors and nurses were idle during the quarantine, I posted videos of those as well). For sure this year has been very bad for Spain, it also has the biggest recession in the EU with the worst perspectuves for next year. Can t say everybody is understanding how that was all worth it, as in Madrid we all know several people who tested positive and at least for young to middle age covid is really not a big deal. But especially the youth has been hit very hard, economically, educationally and according to studies also psychologically. Life is still very far from nornal in Spain, with most cases and political battles happening here in Madrid. Local court in Madrid cancelled today restrictions imposed on the province by the Central government. Quite a mess indeed...
I'm really going out a limb here to say - bet the ones who lost loved ones or those who got it and will now suffer life long consequences don't care about the economic effects. As well anyone with a clue should understand, the number of deaths and surviving victims with long health ramifications would be far greater if there was no shutdowns.
What about the ones, much more numerous, who had loved ones or suffer themselves deaths from lack of care and suicide, were sent into poverty, or saw their family broken during the quarantine ? Just the outrageous privation of liberty locking people in their house is a good enough reason against lockdown imo, but the fact the lockdown cost was/is so heavy makes it much worse. Btw the care houses deaths are to be taken with a grain of salt, in France there were quite a few casualties in Epads, those are medicalised retirement homes. When my grandfather, which was certainly dear to me, entered one the summer before covid came out raging, doctor had said months earlier already he might die anyday coz he was doing so bad, with several life threatening health issues. He died shortly after entreing. Makes no sense to handicap heavily the rest of society for people who are not even on their last legs. He was tied up to a bed much of the time from what I heard ( didn t go to visit him there , didn t take well other deaths and didn t want to see him like this). But such are many of covid "victims"
Yeah ? Do u have covid cases in ur neck of the wood ? We have plenty in Madrid, and for most I know or hear of ( know many personally, like everybody here, plenty of cases) it is a small to moderate deal, the worst part of the disease might the long quarantine when one is diagnosed with it, especially for their covud negative close contacts who are locked in all the same, sometimes still required to sleep together btw, another great instan e of Spanish efficiency. Nothing worth giving ip their way of life for. Many noticed they had had it only because they took antibody tests or a pcr while having no symptom
IMO missteps were made by all involved. By science..by health professionals..by politicians... I knew that immediately things were awry when the top health professionals were saying at the start of covid “that masks do no good...leave the masks for health care workers.” Duh! So I immediately started wearing masks. Masks may not completely protect from covid but they sure will help reduce the viral load and gives one’s immune system a chance. Anybody with common sense can test it out. Hold up a mask and spray water or alcohol at the front side of it and see how much spray gets thru to the other side. Now imagine the virus in water droplets from a sneeze. Now imagine regularly spray the outside of the mask with alcohol or some other sanitizer before, and after, going into a place of business. Think...virus trapped in water droplets on the outside of the mask..what will an little alcohol or sanitizer do to them? To this day I wear masks...multiple times daily I sanitize my hands...when using masks I regularly sanitize them. When we buy groceries I sanitize each item usually with a mixture of Clorox and water before I put them in the pantry. I get rid of the groceries bags and try to sanitize the area the touched on the counter or kitchen Island. I regularly sanitize my mail box and I spray my mail down. Any packages I get gets sanitized and usually set aside for a few days. You do realize lots of hands touch mail and packages don’t you? You realize rural mail delivery people physically touch thousands of pieces of mail weekly don’t you? Even if they wear gloves they are only protecting themselves you realize that don’t you? I regularly sanitize door knobs faucet handles....in house and door handles ..steering wheels in vehicles. I sanitize gas station and diesel pump handles...key pads..and fuel selectors...then pump my fuel and as another precaution, sanitize my hands afterwards. If I am in Walmart's or any other place and lean my elbow on a counter..guess what... it gets sanitized..LOL..WHY? You do realize the virus can live on surfaces don’t you? I usually sanitize my face...my hair...even my clothes if in town going from store to store looking for something. If you happen to in public get within the range of my sanitizing procedures you might accidentally get sanitized too...ROFLMAO. I sanitize door handles bathroom faucets...commodes...grocery store buggies ..I don’t care if the business does it or not, I don’t trust their doing it correctly...I redo it to my satisfaction. I sanitize CC payment machine or if they prohibit doings so via a sign on the machine I will use it and immediately sanitize my hands. PS ..I also sanitize my CC’s and billfold quite often. I don’t live in fear. I go about my life. But I realize there is a REAL virus killing REAL people. I realize it is unprecedented in my life time. I realize the virus is definitely spread from person to person. I realize the virus can live on surfaces and can infect a person who touches those surface then who touched their face..eyes..or nose. So.......I CHANGED my lifestyle and protect myself AND OTHERS as much as I can, within reason, ROFLMAO...I just talked to a dear friend of mine last night who has melanoma and he was laughing at my daily procedures....he thought it was so funny. He says people go and come to his church, and if I remember correctly, he said no one wears masks coming or going! He might, I hope he wears one at church because he told me he does wear one when he goes in stores. He was laughing at me wiping down groceries. I have not been to a Sunday morning church service in months. I go occasionally to men’s bible study on wed (only a handful show up) but I wear a mask and go through my sanitizing procedures and social distance OR I attend the bible study via zoom at home. Yesterday, our church buried a leader in the church...a victim of covid. He should be alive. I won’t be back in person to the wed bible study for at least 14 days. I did not go to the funeral, not because I didn't feel for the family or didn’t want to go but because of precaution. Two days ago a friend of mine died from covid in AR. Several have died or are dying in Honduras and Mexico in spite of Honduras taking very strong measures to stop the spread. They have managed to keep the amount of deaths smaller but not sure if rate of deaths to infections is actually smaller. Get caught with your ass in town in Honduras and it ain’t your day to be allowed into town this is what can happen to you if you have covid, or NOT. Someone sent me this picture. Cases in Honduras 81,016... deaths 2,466 I am of the opposite opinion than those who say it is overstated. I actually think the covid cases are under reported in the United States. Probably the deaths too are under reported. Unfortunately, I see stores cropping back up and employees nit wearing masks where they used to wear masks. Now they aren’t or have the darn thing hanging around their neck or their nose sticking out. I guess in the USA people attitude is “give me liberty or give me death.” Personally, I will choose life with some restrictions. For my own good...my family..my friends..my neighbors...the general public’s own good... and for the good of liberals and I am a conservative. PS..actually I was for total complete shutdown of the entire USA...mobilizing the national guard and making folks stay at home for 4 to 8 weeks back in March when the thing first came to public life. I said from that moment the spread was exponential. I was for closing all borders. Total, and I mean total, shutdown. To this day I believe if we would have done so we would not have as many cases and as many deaths. Unfortunately NO ONE agreed with me and folks ( even my friends) thought I was losing it and off my rocker. One even called me to see if I was mentally ok. He was concerned for me. ROFLMAO. I am mentally Ok guys! I am just doing what I can do. I certainly would have been willing to stay at home 4 to 8 weeks if the country would have taken those steps. Mechanisms could have been created for people needing medical treatment..operations...groceries...Etc. salaries could have been taken care of for 4 to 8 weeks while the virus ran it’s course. Covid positive folks could have been isolated for 8 weeks. Mandatory isolation. Only the military could handle such measures with precision..and with speed. Civilians and politicians would NEVER be able to do so. To much infighting, disagreements, and bureaucracy to get anything done via the public..civil government and politicians. P.S. again. I don’t blame Trump. The virus is not his fault. Nor is the spread of it. We the people are to blame. Just step into most any business place ..observe....and you should be able to see the reason why. Go to most any place of worship..observe... We Americans sometimes are too freedom loving, arrogant, independent, and stubborn for our own good. “Give me liberty or give me death”....well.... A third PS...Mr T will win with a landslide in electoral votes and will win popular vote too (But maybe not in a landslide)...the other side will whine...cry..delay the decision...and do their best to not concede. The very thing they accuse Mr T of doing is the very thing they will do. Many still don’t even concede the 2016. Get ready for an avalanche of crocodile tears being shed by the left and grief counselors galore to help the emotionally weak who cannot deal with the political loss. There I have said my piece. Please take care and be safe for yourself and for others around you. Show some mercy and concern even to those who despise you. One day you may need likewise.
Quite the contradictory post. Trump has been a superspreader of misinformation before it even got to the states, now (if it's not a political stunt) he is a superspreader of the virus itself.
I expected such a response. Why were the people then listening to him? Shouldn’t they have listened the health experts? Oh, but wait, the experts didn’t know either and have changed the narrative more than once. Actually, trump stopped travel from China right away and the left screamed about that. He wanted to shut the borders down and they screamed about that. Daily flights were going from NY (USA epicenter) to Florida in the midst of the height of NY’s predicament. Who screamed against that? Everything Trump tried to do to contain the left countered him. Even in the riots and protest. He offered help they refused...so he just let them handle it. Their fault. Not his. No matter what he does or says they counter him. He could wear a green shirt and they would say he needs to wear a purple one! Trump is not a super spreader. The people are. Then they want to blame him. What is he supposed to do run around and tie the mask around their nose and mouth everyday like they are little kids? No sir, they, and only they, are to blame. When things go bad people tend to blame everyone but themselves. So...Trump doesn’t want to wear a mask?....it doesn’t stop me from wearing one. I’m a big boy. I can decide for myself. People are not responsible to make their own decisions and take correct steps. Case in point: lets assume the people now know the truth if indeed Trump was deceiving them. THEN WHY IN THE SAM HELL ARE THEY STILL NOT DOING WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING? Doesn’t it boil down to selfishness, stubbornness, irresponsibility and maybe mixed with some fear?
I'm a big proponent of self-responsibility and self-determination. Not to turn this into yet another pro/con trump thread, however your statements of 45's positions and actions are easily discredited through an observable factual timeline not an emotionally invested interpreted one. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/timeline-trump-covid19-responses/ As for the folks not complying, it's the MAGA crowd. One can see the BLM protests have mostly mask-wearing vs MAGA rally's which do not. The republican gov states which also followed Trump's guidance and were slow to lockdown and now experiencing spikes due to it are yet another inconvenient truth. It's a pure darwin-trainwreck-in-slo-mo-moment
