I can't believe the non-sense that you write. Of course everyone is against Chinese tariffs because the vast majority of people in government have been given sweet deals by the CCP. Why is it that nobody did anything for decades? Because they were all in China's back pocket. Now you have someone from the outside that can't be bought, who is working on rectifying the issue, and you complain? Which side are you on?
Oh and china was beginning to outsmart U.S. by moving portions of the supply chain to other countries to avoid the price affect of the tariffs and its final sales. Bottom line, we are already in bed with China so hurting the U.S. importers is not the way to deal with this. Develop incentives to import from other countries to help those imports comepte. Subsidize U.S. industries to move awa from Chinese imports Cut off any economic, military or other aid to China Work with ASEAN, WTO, APEC and other groups for a combined attack on China and withdraw from trade agreements with China involved so that other countries feel the pain. Look to Mexico and Latin America to replace Chinese supply chains. Cutt off all technology exchanges or purchases with china and convince other nations to do the same until the negotiate. Whatever exports to China they need, find other outlets and support the move to other countries etc.... Straight tariffs don't work with China because their products are so cheap and U.S. consumers are not America First.
Look.... I understand that i need to dumb this down for you The thread is about the stupidty of your President making a claim a high schooler knows is false. Such stupidity that it is not a method that works. If you think Trump cannot be bought then you are naive. I can list 10 other methods of dealing with China and in each of them I will not make a statement that a 10 yeard old knows is wrong or pretend to suck Trump's dick for failure.
All he has said for a year and a half is China is paying billions in tariffs. There has been no action to do anything more than slap on tariffs and believe that because he is Trump Xi will just bend over and agree to change their system. Trump still sucks XI's dick "China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus," Trump tweeted on January 24, "The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!" The only way is to reduce dependence on China as an exporter through action in international organziations, trade agreements and working with allies in the region. So far ......0.
That is why he pulled away from the stupid TPP. I am telling you, Trump has China cornered. No other president would have even dreamed of being able to do something remotely similar. Who end's up paying for the tariffs ultimately = China. That is a fact.
China paying how....my God never mind..cannot argue with stupid. Show me proof that Trump is correct when he says China is paying billions into the U.S. treasury. I will wait..... crickets...
So how can we have a useful discussion about the impacts with no studies to review ? I would want to know if production had to shift out of China. I would want to know how much prices rose on which products. I would like to see estimates on elasticities of demand in the short run and long run. And that is just the beginning point.
Look...this thread had a clear title but even that gets muddied here.... Trump got up there and sold a bag of goods to you all that China is paying billions in tariffs to the U.S. treasury and you all bought because of a lack of understanding of basic ecnomics or international trade. PERIOD. Now if you want to discuss the impacct of the tariffs, that is another discussion for another thread. Tariffs were just implemented over past 2 years so studies are coming in now but I will play along and post as many studies as I can find when you all admit the statement is FALSE>
Tax Foundation Key Findings We estimate that the Trump administration’s imposition of tariffs, along with retaliatory actions taken by our trading partners, will reduce economic output, income, and employment. The Trump administration has so far imposed nearly $80 billion worth of new taxes on Americans by levying tariffs on thousands of products, which is equivalent to one of the largest tax increases in decades. Tariffs imposed so far by the Trump administration are estimated to reduce long-run GDP by 0.23 percent, wages by 0.15 percent, and employment by 179,800 full-time equivalent jobs. The administration’s outstanding threats to impose additional tariffs would, if acted upon, further reduce GDP by 0.24 percent, wages by 0.17 percent, and employment by 184,200 full-time equivalent jobs. The negative economic effects of imposed, threatened, and retaliatory tariffs threaten nearly a third of the projected long-term economic gains from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
