thankfully in our democracy the majority is against suppressing any kind of speech (including hate speech). Good exercise in hypotheticals though.
All debate is hypothetical. Again, hate speech is already suppressed in the workplace, and during the commission of crimes. It is only the belief in mythical slippery slopes that prevents it from being banned outright, as it is in Canada, for example. We've come a long way from slave labor. Eventually, we'll see that there is no civil place for hate speech. We'll see that allowing hate speech, doesn't somehow, protect democracy. The people can decide to stop hate speech, and they can later decide to bring it back. The people decide future laws; the laws themselves don't decide future laws.
