  1. Again why not 21 to be safe? Seems risky to me with only one day beyond guesstimated exposure time frames. You just can't admit they're winging this and that make it up as we go along approach is and will continue to have devastating consequences

I expect that they go with scientific recommendations from experts. Since the time for COVID-19 symptoms to show up (incubation period) is 3 to 13 days with an average of 5 to 7 days. I expect this drives the calculation for the number of days of new case downtrend necessary.

I will note that previous studies on the possible appearance of a new flu pandemic indicated a case downtrend time of less than a week since the incubation period of the flu 2 to 5 days.

Different diseases require different responses depending on the characteristics of the disease.

I deal with facts and reality in regards to COVID-19. Feel free to step away and get acquainted with them.

COVID-19 is the biggest public health, economic, and political reality that the world is dealing with today - hence it is the leading forum thread topic.

My take on this is Trump deserves the same benefit of the doubt that was given to the scientists and doctors that did the projections of mortality and spread. If you chastised the models, you have no credibility in defending Trump on this.

The difference is that Trump’s job is to protect the country while theirs is to inform the people empowered to protect the country. Ultimately, Trump is responsible for the nation’s response whether he likes it or not, or anyone else for that matter.

If Trump didn’t want the responsibility of the presidency then he should have never ran for president.

The whole thing is unfortunate. I’m glad Trump is being honest about the numbers because people need to understand Covid is still spreading and it’s lethal. Precautions need to be taken and preparations must be made.

We are in a better position now than we were before. The crest of the first wave has broken. Our doctors and hospitals are better prepared for to treat at capacity. We have gained a small amount of knowledge of the pathology of this virus and we have started to rule out ineffective treatments and have hope for other courses of treatment.

But let me just say to you guys who haven’t seen a high infection rate in your localities, Covid is some nasty shit and it will take people by the thousands and make people seriously sick by the tens of thousands. Don’t underestimate this.

I will give Trump the benefit of doubt for his early pandemic response. Many other world leaders did not view it as a significant threat early on in January & February. Most were probably sharing similar intelligence and public health reports.

This changed in March when the COVID-19 threat became more clear. The tone of Trump and other world leaders changed as the pandemic spread.

I will hold Trump to task for his failed COVID-19 pandemic response once it was clear that it was a significant threat in the U.S. His failure to take responsibility for many items, demonstrate leadership in a federal response, and his disturbing federal acquisition of supplies which stole them from localities/states that paid for them -- are all parts of an unacceptable federal response to the pandemic.

The Trump administration projects about 3,000 daily deaths by early June.

As President Trump presses for states to reopen their economies, his administration is privately projecting a steady rise in the number of cases and deaths from coronavirus over the next several weeks, reaching about 3,000 daily deaths on June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times, nearly double from the current level of about 1,750.

The projections, based on modeling by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and pulled together in chart form by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, forecast about 200,000 new cases each day by the end of the month, up from about 25,000 cases now.

The numbers underscore a sobering reality: While the United States has been hunkered down for the past seven weeks, not much has changed. And the reopening to the economy will make matters worse.

“There remains a large number of counties whose burden continues to grow,” the C.D.C. warned.

The projections confirm the primary fear of public health experts: that a reopening of the economy will put the nation right back where it was in mid-March, when cases were rising so rapidly in some parts of the country that patients were dying on gurneys in hospital hallways as the health care system grew overloaded.

I guess Trump meant 100,000 deaths per month..... not a 100,000 deaths total.

  9. 14 days is a safe timeline with respect to the virus entering your system and going away assuming you did not need hospitalization. If you were in your house quarantined for 14 days it is almost a guarantee that you do not have it or if you did you no longer have it at all.

that is why the lockdown for a solid 14 days would have produced results rather than the half assed efforts by everyone around the country leading to this 2 month fiasco.

Didn't some expert said we would have Corona Virus for years down the road? So, it would not matter as people are going to die. Wear a mask to reduce your chances of contracting it. Boost your immune system by taking Vitamin C and Zinc. Take the sun's rays to get Vitamin D. Air your rooms by opening windows to flush viruses and germs out of your rooms. Take a hot bath when you return home when outside and possibly, exposed to any viruses. In the meantime, vaccines are being developed to more better control it. Other medicine combos have saved some lives too. Reality is you cannot save everyone. A physician in New York killed herself over the stress and committed suicide. Businesses will go under if you keep businesses locked up another 2 months like the plan of the Democrat governors. Those businesses are not coming back.
