If Trump weren't influencing Republican politics they would have probably cleaned up last night with the only headwind for them being SCOTUS. Everything else was in the Republican's favor: 81% think the economy is shit, Biden's approval rating around 40%. To quote Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder: "you never go full retard". And here, we see the GOP went full retard in many of the most crucial races. We see very clear disparities between normal standard politicians like DeWine and Kemp vs. Vance (even though he won, by a much smaller margin) and Walker (who will go to a runoff). We see how the Trump clowns in MA and MD did trying to replace moderate GOP governors who won their re-elections easily in a Democratic wave year.
Dems have way more leverage on his ass right now so we'll see. I think Garland & Letitia step aside in that case which is unfortunate.
Don't be so sure. This race isn't like prior ones. You can't predict on Biden's popularity or temporary bad economy when you're stripping people of permanent rights and risking a dictatorship take over. I wondered if the pollster were asking the right questions. "How do you think Biden is doing? and how likely are you to go vote?" are two very different queries right now. I don't follow them that closely so don't know their methodology.
The dictatorship takeover is the Trump factor. The Republicans ran too many January 6th morons across the country. SCOTUS was a headwind and it may have put incumbents like Hasan over the edge even without Trump. However, even with SCOTUS: GA, PA, and AZ all would have been called for Republicans already if they had normal milk toast candidates. We see that with Kemp. If these were normal times, Democrats had this economy, and were only arguing that Republicans want to throw grandma in the streets by taking away her Social Security like they did in 2014, then states like WA and CO would have been in play.
Abortion rights are a big issue, it's something moderate voters take very seriously considering all the hard line bills Republicans have in store.
It's an issue and it cost them votes, but they would have the Senate right now if not for Trump getting involved and endorsing awful candidates like Walker, Bolduc, Masters, and Oz. Not to mention numerous joke gubernatorial and House candidates.
The problem is he endorsed these bad candidates. Walker, Oz, Bolduc, and Masters were all propped up by Trump in the primary. Oz really had no chance until Trump backed him.
Perhaps. I don't see how you can make those statements definitively. You can believe in them, and that's fine.
