Just an historical note. The US did to Europe's manufacturing etc. what China is now doing to the US.
A robust system would start by lowering costs rather than putting on tariffs. The huge amounts pretty average management have been paid in recent years could be brought down to earth by big pay cuts. There are only a few people like Steve Jobs that are worth it and can therefore be paid it.

LOL Well to be fair, tariffs is like making the good players pay to enter the competition while it's free for the other players to enter. :)

Plenty of foreigners buy and sell properties in China and make $ millions and jacked up the property prices in China so high to the point that if you flipped a property in China, you can buy multiple properties in California, the most expensive state in USA for properties. There are restrictions set up for the property speculations but there are easy ways to get around it. And plenty of foreigners set up businesses in China and profited. All of the fast food restaurants from USA are setting up shops all over China. They have been there for 30+ years. Have you asked how much is Walmart's profit from its operation in China? How about Interactive Brokers, the favorite broker of many of the ET members here? All of USA's sitcoms and TV shows are bought by Chinese TV networks and air there everyday. Do you see any businesses from China here in USA? Can you name any Chinese TV shows and dramas? Meanwhile in the West Trump is banning China in investing and buying up USA companies too and there are foreign buyers' tax set up in various countries now like Australia to curtail property investment by foreigners and yet China didn't ban foreigners setting up businesses in China?

India and Vietnam is irrelevant to this topic. If they become good enough, they will get hit with tariffs too. LOL It's this practice of Trump using trade barriers to punish the good players to discourage competition that's the problem. At the end it's the consumers who's going to end up getting screwed.

The logic is asinine. If Europe or South America slapped tariffs on American made goods aided by automation, making domestic labor non-competitive, America would cry foul without hesitation. So here comes China, with much lower labor cost, providing an advantage, and they cry foul.

Weren't they bitching about Canadians putting tariffs on our subsided dairy? Would they bitch if our subsidized corn got slapped w/tariffs? Tariffs on our bailed auto industry, our bailed out banks?

It simply means there will be lots of trading opportunities trading things like

    Hangseng Index, NQ, copper

    and to some extent

EUR GBP, gold, and perhaps soya, lean hog.

so just be opportunistic, be alert.

Yes Canada has two huge dairy producing provinces that produce exactly the same products - milk and USA wants Canada to take on still more milk with governmental subsidization? LOL WHY is the government subsidizing milk? Milk is in abundance nowadays thanks to the conventional farming practice of making cows pregnant non-stop with artificial insemination and feeding calves blood. Farmers are pouring milk down the gutter and the government is still wasting taxpayers' money to subsidize them? Milk is like oil, you don't make money by massive producing; you only make money when you raise the price by restricting production. They should do the opposite. They should let cows produce milk naturally to restrict quantity produced to raise the price and thus earn higher revenue. Instead of trying to compete with Canada to sell more milk, the milk producers of USA should form a trade union, an oligopoly with Canada milk producers to restrict production quantity like oil so everybody makes money and the cows won't have to get pregnant and give birth non-stop and the calves get to drink their mommies' milk like how they are supposed to. This is what they should propose in NAFTA.

And for corn, Mexico's a major corn producer and produces high quality corn naturally. I guess Mexico is starving its own corn farmers to open its market to the USA Monsanto corns. That's why Trump is signing the unilateral agreement with Mexico because Mexico is getting screwed. LOL Well if that's the case, Canada is not really missing much then. Maybe it's a good thing for Canada that it sits this one out.

It's NOT true that foreigners cannot rent out properties in China. This guide is wrong. And there are ways to get around the "study and work" requirement for the property-purchasing.

And as for taking over Chinese companies, who cares? You can set up shops directly in China to do business. What's the big deal of taking over companies?
