Trump must be reading the forum: What will he offer Dems for wall funding?

Full disclosure, Donald Trump is definitely at the very least the worst president of my lifetime and a complete disaster but...

He’s making the right move here, publicly making an offer with concessions to democrats will move the needle in his favor if he does it right.

It will be interesting what he offers, whether it’s daca or he starts thinking out of the box like student loan reform, this is a big opportunity for both sides to make significant progress on important issues to each side.

I expect him to take a normal opening position, offering something substantially less than he is willing to give.

This will put democrats in a high pressure situation because, very quickly, public opinion will move to them to make a deal. Their counteroffer has to come back as reasonable but big enough to give up something and get public support back on their side.

I will say this, IMO Democrats will still hold the advantage as they can put almost anything on the table from universal background checks for guns to social security because almost all of their policies have the support of the people.

    Anyway, now the fun begins...

Trump is expected to offer protections for DACA and TPS residents.

Compromise in Washington means the Democrats give up nothing and Republicans cave on everything. Its the way the game has been played for at least the last 20 years. Trump is changing the rules and the Democrats don't like it.

  6. Trump should offer to take half for the wall but demand twice as much overall in funding.

Obama was definitely the right man for the country.

    Unfortunately, that country was Venezuela.

That’s because democrats policies are supported by the majority of the American people.

Trump is not changing the rules, he’s learning a president doesn’t have the power of a dictator and he cannot govern without the consent of the American people.

Well, yes. Trump has to present something that was no insultingly low but a starting point. It is also so low of an offer that he is not appealing to any cohort of the American people.

Democrats could probably dismiss this offer without any backlash from the electorate. But imo they should squeeze Trump rather than humiliate him.

I agree, the problem's Trump so thin skinned that anything short of a cave from the Dems. will be seen as a loss by FOX and we'd be back to square one. Anything short of full comprehensive Immigration reform will be seen as a cave by fringe lunatics on the left....some even believe that shouldn't be up for grabs as they can "pass it" at a later date w/o giving trump money for a paint job of the current wall.
