The Great Depression was soon followed by the first Great Migration of blacks to northern cities...dramatically changed the landscape (party switching) of the KKK from Democrats to Republicans. If I remember correctly, the above had something to do with President FDR economic policy called the New Deal (color blind) which was enacted in the United States between 1933 and 1939. Many minorities like blacks americans, native americans, asian americans, etc begin to reap the economic benefits and incentives of the New Deal programs & policies... Shifting from individualism to collectivism with a dramatic expansion of a welfare state (for example...creation of Social Security). I learned the above at summer school at a Native American school in South Dakota when I was a kid...a school that had no black children but we did have many European immigrants. Also, my grandfather had written about the New Deal in his journal. He and his two brothers traveled a lot from big city to big city building skyscraper buildings with the Mohawk ironworkers because they were not afraid of heights and it was good money too to send back home to their families.
