Trump is the Best Friend of Day Traders and the Enemy of Swing Traders

Discussion in 'Politics' started by zdreg, May 23, 2025.

The actions of Trump create the volatility necessary for day traders but harms swing traders?

Get out of the trading biz if you dont like these markets. What more can you ask for?

Speaking of TDS, are you and Smallfill still grabbing your ankles every time someone criticizes Trump?

    What are you talking about?
You just brought up stocks that don't follow the market. And even then trading traditional stocks is boring. You do all that work for 30% a year? And have day trading times and hours, how is that any good? Day trading is for little boys...

  5. Are you willing to have a serious discussion on the subject?

I was long pre-market yesterday when Trump tweeted and the market fell more than 50 points in 2 minutes while I was away from the computer. And that was a fairly mild reaction compared to his other tweets - where I've so far been lucky to not be on the wrong side of the market.

I prefer a market that's not subject to 50-400 ES points movements in minutes when Trump tweets. It's like an unannounced FOMC/CPI event.

Medium paced volatility is my preference because it's moving more orderly and predictable and your chance of staying in the trade is greater as there's less erratic price behavior and spikes - while still moving enough that there's plenty of opportunity for profit. Orderly and predictable also means you can take on greater size and scale into a position during a clean trend.

As both margin requirements and volatility have increased in 2025 most people trade smaller size anyway, so the increased ranges is likely offset by a decrease in trading size.

  6. Do you even trade? Serious question.

It's only a few months ago you didn't know how to find 'pre-market charts' and had to create a thread on it.

Does that imply your day trading has increased and your swing trading has decreased or does it imply your day trading position size has increased and your swing trading position size has decreased ???

Then again, there's no specific discussion about what markets you're talking about (e.g. specific stocks, specific bonds, specific futures, coins et cetera).

Simply, this "Trump Market" may be good for a day trader of of a specific stock and bad for a day trader of a different stock. The same for a day trader of a specific futures and bad for a day trader of a different futures...same thing for other types of financial instruments regardless if you're talking about day trading or swing trading.

Whatever is more difficult for you, decrease your risk exposure by lowering your position size or do not trade it...the latter implies to not step up to the plate if the market you're trading is too difficult.

P.S. Why did this thread get moved to Politics...is it because you put Trump's name in the title ?
