Trump Is Right About Birth Citizenship

I am not a Trump fan. I think his popularity is a sign of how poor the rest of the Republicans candidates are in the this election.

However I don't see where he is "soft on the Constitution". His primary point is that the 14th amendment written as part of the Reconstruction to ensure former slaves would be citizens is not being interpreted correctly and needs further legal review and challenges. If court challenges do not work then the U.S. should pass an additional Constitutional Amendment to not allow anchor babies. Keep in mind the 21st amendment overturned the 18th amendment so there is plenty of previous support for this type of national action. No other 1st world nation allows anchor babies - and in my opinion (and the opinion of most reasonable people) this is not the intent of the 14th amendment.

Can you explain your "soft on the Constitution" perspective?

It would be easier to interpret the 2nd into denying the keeping and bearing of arms than it would to interpret the 14th into denying birthright for anyone born in the US.

Actually if you dig through the legal history of court cases defending the current interpretation of the second amendment you would find a wealth of legal material defending the individual right to bear arms.

The legal precedence defending the 14th amendment is much weaker and open to challenge, and includes a mere 1% of the legal material compared to the 2nd amendment.

I expect that the 14th amendment will be effectively overturned in my lifetime. A large ground swell of support for immigration changes from American citizens will lead to the effective demise of any interpretation that supports anchor babies.

That's why I don't like trump. If we continue down that road America will soon be under a despot.

He picks and chooses which Constitutional Amendments he likes, and ignores the rest. Like most politicians. He considers Edward Snowden a traitor. He's been purposefully vague when asked about NSA spying. Trump has supported gun control in the past. He just doesn't talk about the Constitution much, or hold much reverence to it. Invokes it when it fits his idealogy, and ignores it when it's an obstacle. That said, he's lightyears ahead of most GOP candidates, and will help us greatly (hopefully).

Brethren, I understand that some of you want things to be Constitutional and orderly, as they should be.
I feel your pain at the loss of what was a great and powerful nation.
That nation does not exist anymore and it ain't comin' back.

Why?...Cause there's too damn many nutcases with a voter registration card in their hand.
Voting ain't been working, in case you missed it.

I will settle for most anything that can reverse what Obama has done to this country.
Yet, I deal with problems as they exist; not as I wish they existed.
Trump may be the person who can fix, at least some of our problems brought on by this GODless, twisted, perverted, so-called President.
    And those problems are many.

Personally, I'm not sitting around looking for the likes of McConnell, Boner, Pelosi, etc. to "fix" stuff.
It's gonna have to be done in somewhat "different" ways.

Donald Trump, Rand Paul, or Ted Cruz.
Any of those three could make a positive difference.
    The others...I'm not too sure.

Soft tyranny. Not hard tyranny. Advocating the President does whatever suits his ideology with no regard for the law, means a totalitarian state. We are not there yet, thankfully.
