exactly....now you get it....you just turned the law into a political tit for tat, not something to be upheld. Now do you want the voters to decide who the president is or state supreme courts on political vendettas. trump was not convicted in a criminal court or found liable in a civil court. Case closed no matter how big of a fucktard he is, colorado cannot run their own "trial" on a federal interpretation of a crime codified. Only Congress can. If there is a dispute then it goes to trial, or federal circuit court.
ugh he just needs to go away....i dont get the fascination with Vivek and Ronnie... they make Christie look likeable
Actually state courts have removed candidates from the ballot numerous times well after the Civil War under the 14th Amendment Section 3. None of these candidates had a criminal conviction. Most were dismissed for being Communists or Socialists which violates “given aid or comfort to the enemies” clause of the 14th Amendment Section 3 according to the court decisions at the time. The Colorado Supreme Court is merely following the law as per the 14th Amendment Section 3. If Trump is found to be "engaged in insurrection" then he must be banned from the ballot. Very straight-forward. Now let's take a look at how the U.S. Supreme Court is likely to rule on this case and the precedents they will use. One likely path is that Supreme Court -- with a 6-3 conservative majority -- will rule that the Colorado court erred in asserting Trump engaged in insurrection thereby undermining the basis to remove him from the ballot. At this point, I expect the U.S. Supreme Court with the conservative majority including three justices appointed by Trump will find some way to overturn the Colorado court ruling. Here is a good & detailed article found in the Denver Post. U.S. Supreme Court likely to overturn Colorado ruling that Trump can’t be on ballot Only bad options for the U.S. Supreme Court can keep Trump on the ballot, Noah Feldman writes https://www.denverpost.com/2023/12/20/donald-trump-colorado-ballot-14th-amendment-ruling/
Because it needed to be said again. But you would think that in a perfect world there would be anti-self-destruct measures in place.
No one's disputing the GOP has a right to appeal to SCOTUS. No one's under an illusion that this SCOTUS will do the just thing and find that Trump led an insurrection just like they failed to do the just thing under Roe or affirmative action. Let Texas remove Biden from the ballot, let SCOTUS decide....it's a partisan body after all. It's not like the GOP has a spotless history of disenfranchising attempts. I honestly don't get this enlightened centrist take Ocho:
So Iran wants to kill Trump and Biden wants to fund them. Iran reissues threat to 'kill Trump, Pompeo' for Soleimani death when announcing long-range cruise missile Biden Mulls Approval of Fresh $10 Billion for Iran
