It seems we should all think about this a little bit. Somehow your remarks seem to suggest that what is good for democrats is somehow different than what is good for republicans. Fundamentally It seems intuitively obvious, to me at least, that this is a very flawed argument. It seems the only way this argument can hold true is if there is some strong fundamental differences in the biology of Homo sapiens-republican compared with Homo sapiens-democrat. I don't buy that. What makes republicans happy should also make democrats happy. There is a misunderstanding somewhere. Lets find out where it is and do something about it. There are no democrats that are for open borders that i've ever met. have you? Ergo if democrats are not in favor of Trump's Wall it must be for some reason other than they don't want to have any restrictions on immigration.

I think the suggestion here is that immigrants will heavily favor democrats in elections. But immigrants can't vote!!! Only citizens can vote! Or are we perhaps projecting twenty-thirty years down the road. Well if we are, many of us will be dead by then, and things may have changed considerably. Few of us are exactly the same persons we were twenty years ago.

Poll: Voters blame Trump, GOP for shutdown

President Donald Trump faces a tall task in his Oval Office address on Tuesday night: convincing voters outside of his political base that there is an urgent crisis at the nation’s southern border, that a wall along the border is necessary to solve it, and it’s worth a government shutdown that has stretched for nearly three weeks.

A new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, conducted as the partial government shutdown reached its third week, reveals the scope of Trump’s challenge. A minority of voters agree with Trump’s description of a crisis of illegal immigration at the southern border. There’s only tepid support for the wall he wants to build there. Voters are opposed to shutting down the government to extract the funds for the wall’s construction — and more blame Trump and the GOP for the shutdown than Democrats.

Nearly half of voters, 47 percent, say Trump is mostly to blame for the shutdown, the poll shows, while another 5 percent point the finger at congressional Republicans. But just a third, 33 percent, blame Democrats in Congress.

Trump is expected to make the case Tuesday night for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. He has described conditions along the border from California east to Texas as “a crisis” — but less than half of voters (42 percent) view it as ‘a crisis,‘ the poll shows. There is, however, widespread belief that the border is a serious issue: In addition to the 4-in-10 voters who say the border situation is ‘a crisis,‘ another 37 percent say the U.S. has ‘a problem‘ along the border, though they don’t view it as a crisis.

Just 12 percent say the U.S. faces neither a crisis nor a problem at the border.

The poll underscores Trump’s challenge in building popular support for his border policy and the shutdown it has sparked. He has the backing of his core supporters — which has served to perpetuate the fight over the border wall — but a majority of Americans don’t believe the border issue has reached crisis proportions. More than seven-in-10 Republicans, 72 percent, say the U.S. faces a crisis at the southern border, and 82 percent favor the wall.

  7. Trump was awarded an Honorary Degree for this address:

Donald Trump’s Old Advice About How To Defeat A Wall

President Donald Trump believes a border wall can stop undocumented immigrants.

But in a 2004 speech resurfaced by “The Daily Show,” Trump had some different thoughts on walls, at least when it comes to the metaphorical type.

“Never ever give up,” he urged graduates at Wagner College on New York’s Staten Island:

“Don’t give up. Don’t allow it to happen. If there’s a concrete wall in front of you, go through it, go over it, go around it, but get to the other side of that wall.”

Maybe that’s why he recently shifted from a “concrete” wall to one with “steel slats.”

See his full 2004 commencement address here. His comments about walls are at 12:35.

Trump was awarded an honorary degree for delivering the address. Since his election, however, at least 33 Wagner professors and more than 700 alumni have called on the school to rescind the degree.

Wagner has not publicly addressed the matter.
