I’m not talking about getting votes, I’m talking about making a large concession to get something you guys seem to badly want.

If trump and the Republican base want that wall they have to put pressure on Pelosi because what they are doing right now might as well be giving her pass to club med. she is under no pressure, she is applying the pressure.

Regardless, personally I told you all a while back that this was untenable for trump and his best case scenario was still a losing emergency declaration. I’m ok with him taking the loss and putting this wall nonsense behind us for good.

This whole strategy was hair brained from the beginning. It’s weakened trump and empowered democrats.

  3. That's because you are a binary thinker who takes every issue and puts it into an either/or framework.

It is not either/or. It is both. Trump gets to work the shutdown route as long as he wants and he also gets to work the emergency declaration at some point too if that is needed. And other approaches as well, such as vetoing dem pet projects along the way.

    "she is under no pressure"

Don't kid yourself Cowboy. Pelosi is under enormous pressure to avoid being in a position where her first act after becoming speaker again is to fund any portion of the wall. Even a dollar.

    Its time for the NDIAnC.

So as of today.... if Trump knows sales.... Its time to go with the takeaway close.
Dem leadership should have taken the deal when it was on the table.
Because now its better for Americans but worse for Democrat leadership.

Then he lays out the "New Immigration Deal for Americans not Congress.
    The NIDAnC.

Both sides know that there are tons of votes riding on the outcome.
This is brinkmanship on so many levels.
Its really interesting because the sands could shift under their feet right now.

The Dems could not give Trump DACA in the past.
And they can't give it to him now.

So they can't give him the wall and they can't give him DACA.
Contrary to the Republican pundits I hear on the radio... Trump could crush them on this DACA for a Wall plus true immigration reform.

All DACA for All Wall and a cessation of illegal immigration and an elimination of chain migration and Anchor babies.

Trump already put what 3-6 million DACAs on the table in the past.
So not just 1.7 but the whole DACA ... 3-6 million DACA for and an escrowed 25 wall billion- an end to anchor babies - an end to immigration lottery. Soley immigration based on merit. .

If Trump were to propose that right now. He looks like a genius negotiator who cares about all Americans. He also becomes the opposite of his weakness. He is not a hater. He is a lover.

He wins... with his base and a large part of hispanics.
Pelosi and Schummer look stupid for not taking the deal on the table.

So as of today. if Trump really knows sales.
Its time to go with the takeaway close.

You should have taken the deal when it was on the table.
Because now we all get DACA and the country gets Immigration sanity.
Don't you all care about DACA and immigration reform? Those are your platforms.... other than hate Trump.

Dem leadership loses if they agree to the NIDAnC. But if they disagree they are exposed... and part of their base leaves them.

I have urged President Trump to veto any bills the Democrats come out with considering they have no intention of at all negotiation on the border wall! Have also, given him other measures which might pass legal muster that he can take unilaterally and let the Democrats challenge him in court! 2020 will be here soon enough and Democrats showing how President Trump is the only adult and Democrats are all spoiled brats! Democrat voters should realize that Democrat politicians will hurt them as much as other voters because of their policies! More taxes for them soon enough!

    Its dangerous.

I don't know if any of you are middle-class or all of you are super rich but in many middle-class homes their tax refund is used to make the main large purchases of the year like an appliance, home improvement or a vacation.

Trump is claiming that federal income tax refunds will be issued but many have rightly asked how that can happen with only a fraction of the IRS employees working. Its a bigger deal than wealthy folks realize. People would really start howling if they don't think they are going to get their refund. They won't discern, particularly, who exactly is at fault.... they will blame ALL.

  7. You know I actually agree with you and I think most Trump voters do as well. As a country we certainly owe our first allegiance to our own poor. We can't take care of disabled vets, yet we're supposed to provide free health care for most of Latin America?

Globalization has made the CEO class obscenely wealthy at the expense of workers. Maybe you could justify it in some sick world if it had made us stronger as a country or given us a superior industrial base. Instead, we got the exact opposite. We can't manufacture anything apparently. Our grandfathers built the Hoover dam in four years. Now we can't even build a freakin fence on the border.

Your post is an excellent example of what should terrify the establishment pols of both parties. The right and left share a surprising number of positions. Foreign policy, for example. We want out of Syria and Afghanistan and no more adventures. Populist economics for another. Can you imagine if Trump found a way to relieve some of the student loan burden? Or agreed to a super tax on the mega rich, like AOC called for.

  8. The media tend to assume that because Trump is a republican, he is obligated somehow to take traditional republican positions on things. But his base expects him to do the opposite of a lot of those traditional policies. Most of them, to be honest. Of course, that makes the "principled conservatives" get woozy. They are more comfortable losing but winning the ideological battle.

  9. Trump gearing up.

    Helmets on.

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon is preparing options to build barriers on the southern border in the event that President Donald Trump declares a national emergency there, the latest indication such a move is gaining traction within the administration.

"The Department of Defense is reviewing available authorities and funding mechanisms to identify options to enable border barrier construction," said Navy Capt. Bill Speaks, a Pentagon spokesman. "As there has not been such a declaration made, it would be inappropriate to comment further on those efforts."

The confirmation of the preparations comes after Trump on Thursday gave his most explicit warning yet that he was considering a declaration of a national emergency as a way of freeing up funds for a border wall if talks with Democrats fail to yield a deal on his signature issue.
