Reverse image search that fire map and its from The Sun. The fucking Loch Ness monster on the cover of the National Enquirer is as credible. As someone said in the comments, probably the data is set to just US but also.. The aforementioned weather differences this year plus the covid restrictions this year on Canada meaning far fewer out to start fires. Plus, the federal government controls nearly all the forests that are not private.
Why did the state of California reject allowing the federal government to clear brush and perform controlled burns on Federal lands within California for over 30 years? This is not a matter of the state paying for it. The Feds would have paid for it. Now that California has finally signed a joint agreement in August 2020 allowing the Feds to perform these operations -- I hope there is some improvement in future years.
I wonder how many spotted owls died in the wake of this, since it was caused by trying to save the spotted owl. I really hate the spotted fucking owl.
Go read all the state documents from California that I posted earlier in this thread. They lay out the entire tragedy of not signing an agreement with the Feds for decades in damning detail — as well as all the regulations & policies that California implemented that caused this crisis.
