  1. I know that Obama has an official state certified birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii and that he is over 35 years old. That's all I need to know to stay away from birtherville

Not a birther, and I think that topic is beyond dead.

I think it should be pointed out though, that while there is a certain amount of natural media vetting during elections, there is no formal vetting process for candidates.

I would challenge you to find a description anywhere. Or even a person or organization that is responsible. You are claiming that there is a vetting process, so the burden of proof is on you.

In fact, many states are in the process of passing legislation right now that would implement a formal vetting process, because it is a pretty well known fact that no such process exists. That said, people should give the birther nonsense a rest.

  5. Funny how they're deciding to do it now, all of a sudden, after a couple of hundred years, eh? Can't imagine why...

  6. Their is no formal vetting process, but there is paperwork you have to turn in to your party and the state, and some of that paperwork includes an official state certified birth certificate

they obviously did not see a need for it before now. that's how a lot of laws come into being.

  8. You already have to turn in paperwork to get on state ballots, the birther state reps are trying to change it to include words like "long form birth certificate with doctors signature " and pledges that you were never a duel citizen etc.

  9. Oh, how I wonder what created the present and pressing "need." If only there was something that could explain it...

There is only the ballot process. If you get on the ballot in a certain state then you are essentially eligible. Obviously, the presidential nominee would need to get on the ballot in almost all states. And as much as you'd like to think (assume) that it requires a birth certificate to get on the ballot, that is simply not the case. In fact, 10 states are currently fighting tooth and nail to make it a requirement, but haven't succeeded yet.
