With a single party controlling the House, Senate, and Presidency, they still couldn't get the job done. The "Affordable Care Act" is neither affordable nor about healthcare but instead is a big giveaway to insurance companies and indirectly the medical-industrial complex.

How do I operate? I call out hypocrites when I see them. Check your TDS at the door, piezoe. You lost, and your whole world is unravelling before your very eyes. Isn't it wonderful?

    Self-described "libertarian". What a joke.

    WTF!

What the hell is going on here?

Not sure what Little Marco and Trump did to grease this deal AND I DON'T NEED TO KNOW.

Not something you would see under Border Czar Kamala Harris.

I see no contradiction. Do you want to be specific about where you believe the contradiction lies?

In fact, it was a Democrat, Senator Max Baucus of Montana, that would have killed the entire bill had the Public Option not been removed. The Bill, as passed, was still better than it is now after the Republican wrecking ball hit it.

What you are looking at is the pernicious use of money in politics for the benefit of special interests and special people. This destructive force has always been around since there has been a government, but it picked up steam starting with the Reagan administrations' elimination of most of the progressiveness in the income tax that accelerated the growth of private fortunes, the administrations the push to privatize as much as possible including stuff that no sane person would ever want privatized --- unless they owned the franchise. The cake was topped off by SCOTUS's Citizens decision.

The Country can not go back now because the institutions that would be needed to guide us back to a somewhat Democratic Constitutional Republic no longer function as intended by the framers of the Constitution.

It's a myth that there are three equal and independent branches of U.S. government; there never was, and there certainly never will be. Still today, among the three branches of government, the Constitution gives by far the most power to the Congress, the courts the second most and the administrative branch the least. Any constitutional scholar will tell you that. If someone tells you there are three equal branches of government you will know immediately that that person has never studied the Constitution, has bought reflexively into the myth, or is a politician wanting you to believe that there are three equal branches of government. Congress's power is concentrated in the House. This feature is due to Hamilton's influence that held sway from ratification of Constitution until at least through the Carter era, after which the executive accelerated its grab of Congress's power. Congress had the power to stop the grab but was too dysfunctional to do anything about it. Stopping this subversion of the Constitution would have required that both political parties cooperate. That did not happen, and the Constitution is toast. .

I don't know where we'd be today without Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove's Citizens, but it certainly wouldn't be where we are. Interestingly, Rove was influential in the first idiot presidency of the Twentieth Century, that of the "W." I'm being unfair to "the W" of course, because we all know Dick Cheney was really the President, just as Musk is the real President now --- McDonald Trump is just playing his reality TV role. I know I'm being unfair to the "W", because Cheney was really the president, and Dick is not an idiot, nor a dummy, he's just a Dick.

In my diatribe here, I've saved the single most important development in getting us to where we are today until last. It's the INTERNET, the most effective tool we have yet devised for spreading disinformation. Imagine how effective Hearst could have been had he had the internet. As it was, he could only start a war with disinformation. Today he'd be a Steve Bannon, a Karl Rove, an Elon Musk, or McDonald Trump, busy wreaking havoc on the World's longest surviving "democracy".

And what did Trump accomplish other than causing the death of 1MM Americans?

The ACA was killed in committee. It was to be Universal Health Care. Universal healthcare envisioned by the Reagan Republicans.

The 2nd paragraph of my post#587 above is crap. I have copied the crap version above. Below is a corrected version of paragraph #2:

What you are looking at is the pernicious use of money in politics for the benefit of special interests and special people. This destructive force has been around since there has been a government, but it picked up steam with the Reagan administrations' elimination of nearly all the progressiveness in the income tax. This had the effect of accelerating growth of private fortunes. Other Reagan contributions to the mess we find ourselves in include Reagan's push to privatize as much as possible, including stuff that no sane person would want privatized --- unless they owned a prison. The cake that was begun by the Reagan administration was topped off years later by SCOTUS's "Citizens" decision. "Citizens United" helped find a political home for the extra money that had been accumulating in billionaires pockets due to Reagan's trashing of the progressive tax code. As I write this, I can't help noticing the present administration is making further privatization a priority --- except for abortions where they are fine with State governments' intrusion. How wonderfully fascist of them!
