Pete Hegseth nominated for Sec. of Defense. I definitely did not have him on my bingo card for anything. If we are going down that road then that means they are looking at Pam Bondi for AG. Don't ask me to explain the logic of that. But there is some.
Dems will start gunning for Pete Hegseth by noontime today and it will build from there. They want to take down at least one or two Trump nominees and truthfully almost every president has to sacrifice a couple to the political gods so the dems will torpedo a couple of Trump's. Not saying they will succeed with Pete. Just saying when they do torpedo a nominee I will just shrug. Trump will just appoint someone else that they hate as a replacement and we will move on and they will be happy with their pound of flesh for one day. Hegseth is on record at length about being anti-woke and going after nominees who are not woke is sort of the only thing dems do. So Hegseth is in the crosshairs from day one. Could backfire for the dems too. They just lost an election for doing that kind of thing and if they want to show that they are still stuck on stupid, Hegseth's nomination process will be a great opportunity to do that. And yes I get that the pubs will have a Senate majority so in theory there be no rejections. Out in the real world though, there are pub senators who are either rinos or want to play to their purple states so need to show ballsy Trump resistance back home.
Jack Smith being driven out in total, total defeat. Daily Beast reports it as Jack Smith successfully "trolling Trump by resigning before Trump can fire him." Ahhh okay. And lefty Bloomberg news reports it as "Jack Smith plans to complete his investigation by the end of the year." Ahhh, okay. Meanwhile, total humiliating defeat for Jack Smith. Special counsel Jack Smith and his team to resign before Trump takes office Smith's federal criminal cases against Trump were upended by the election, as the Justice Department's longstanding policy is that presidents can't be charged with crimes. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/ju...ith-team-resign-trump-takes-office-rcna179928
Pete isn't qualified. In keeping with your theory that some will be sacrificed to the political gods I think Pete fits in that category. Next up will be someone the dems hate but will have already played the hard ass card with Pete. Rinos will fall in line with the second nominee.
Yeh, there is some kind of predictable dance there. In the end, whomever he picks will be seen as not-qualified because Trump is not going to go with a general or other military-industrial hack and that is what the usual pathway is.
Is there a chance that Trump could refuse to let the 34 felony charges case be thrown out if that Judge decides to? Reason being, why not take it to the Appeals Court and clear his name, ie overturn the ruling. Or does it not work that way? That would be a beautiful slap in the face.
The judge would need to do something adverse to his interests in order for Trump to go to the appeals court. Even a minor sentence or fine would be sufficient for appeal but if the judge outright dismisses then it becomes hard to argue that he is harmed by that. The criminal courts don't really deal with reputational damage.
I'd still love to see those convictions overturned... that would be the final icing of the cake. Mika, Morning Joe, and Joy would all be on suicide watch.
