Trouble logging on to IB

Discussion in 'Interactive Brokers' started by flea, Oct 2, 2009.

  1. As I said above, for my routing it appeared as if Level3 broke down -- a major backbone provider.

If a major global network issue turns out to be the culprit then there's nothing that IB could do.

  2. IB should have multiple servers farm around globe; should not have single point of failure even it is a network issue.
Other web sites are working ok.

We have many platforms with multiple feeds and no disruption today.
It amazes me on how many "professional traders" here on ET don't have a back-up broker.

    From IB at 17:30 ET.

At 15:14 Friday (New York time) IB's primary Internet service provider suffered a partial system failure that caused some users' Trader Workstations to disconnect. Because of the complexity of the outage it took us a period of time to determine the optimal failover plan that would disrupt the least amount of our customers. Once this determination was made the traffic was re-routed and all systems are now operating normally at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Based on some of the posts prior to this one I guess IB doesn't have too many DC area customers!

IB does have multiple servers farm around globe.

"IB operates three main computing centers around the globe: Europe, the U.S. and Hong Kong. New customers are automatically assigned to one of these server facilities based upon their location and/or trading preferences."

I have been having continuing problems with multiple websites since 15:00 EDT. ET is quite slow.

sometimes it's feels like IB is just a bunch of amateurs, not some serious firm. here is perfect example i found in my email today...
HELLO! anybody home? which account you are referring to?
i think i know....the one, from which i withdraw enough money, that total value(there is some corporate bonds on it, but we all know from my previous posts how IB value them) drops below 25K. BUT! there is no trades on this account for more than a month! how to hell i got into PDT restrictions?
what is wrong with you people? can you do something right? from this email anyone can see on how many levels IB is f**d..
hey...i really like your style when it's comes to buy\sell corporate bonds...this will blow every trader's mind..your order will be rejected unless there is a bid AND ask presented from some "third" party on this exchange. yeah..you have some potatoes to sell on farmers market, but you can't..unless there is a another seller AND buyer is presented...what can i say...wow!

  10. The under-$25K restriction isn't necessarily triggered by a trade. It's triggered when the *value* of your account drops below $25K.
