Trend or Range: How to Know in Advance

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by schizo, Sep 7, 2024.

  1. Aloha @schizo,

Thought I'd try to resurrect this thread.

You stated where the PB ended and the TR began. After the close of the last bar in the orange box, did you know at that time the TR began or is that a hindsight call?

    What, you think I'm a noob? :D

No offense, but with everything that I've shared with you, you really should know this by now. Hint: count them candles.

  3. In a seemingly never ending search for info on trading range behavior, I came across this:

"you'll see the recent readings of daily changes--as measured from the market open--for the 40 stocks in my basket. Five highly weighted stocks are taken from each of the eight sectors I track each week: Materials, Industrial, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples, Energy, Health Care, Financial, and Technology. Note how the board is a mix of green and red. That is typical of range markets, as we see sector reallocation dictating flows of funds, not general directional (trending) revaluation across sectors. Recognizing a range environment early in the day is helpful both for identifying potential points reversal around range extremes, such as this morning's reversal once we tested yesterday's price highs."

I do not trade this way, and have not looked into it at all, but think it is an interesting take on IDing trading ranges. Food for thought. I'll keep a lazy eye on it

  5. There was once an Iceberg in Hawaii in 20 million years ago. When tyceratops was flying the oceans. Not concurrently. That guy is DEEP. He knows what he is doing as a trader. He is one of the Greats. This is ET, this is not an amateur place
