You post a thread how it's down -6% Jan - April after it was up +40% in 2008? That's your personal bias right there!
This post is exactly why trend following works. The great thing about stupid people is they will be there to pay you off, 2, 3, 4, x number of times. They don't learn. Some people would rather try to impress others with their smarts than make money. Show us your smarts and buck a trend and sooner or later you go bye bye, its called a concave return distribution.
That's exactly it. Guys like Surf are HORRIBLE traders because they think they are "smarter" than the mkt. They can't admit when they are wrong, and eventually get taken out on a stretcher. I have traded around plenty of Surf types. They never make it. Keep fading those trends Surf and losing. Your CROX trade was a great example of how flawed your strategy is. You lost standing in front of a trend, while TF types cleaned up on the way back down.
I know,I hope, I sweat, I pray, I imagine, I dream a "trend" will follow, every 1min, 5min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, 60 min, 240 min timeframe !
You have this wrong makloda . . . . We all have a right to our own opinions . . . but the only opinion that is correct (in Surf's) eyes is his own. He is beyond closed minded and hopeless. He won't ever entertain the thought of alternate ideas and then checking them out. That is beyond hopeless.
with all due respect, proflogic, this is simply not true. i am open to new tactics, and in fact, seek out true edge. it exists, but its not from another form of chart reading. i think your a cool guy and respect you as a person, however, with that said, i don't believe your method is as fool proof and perfect as you make it out to be. i am interested in scientific tests and third party verification before i change my mind about what seems obvious to me. true edge is what i seek, not pretty charts and andecdotal claims. My seeing it in person is irrelevent--similar to watching Kreskin bend spoons or Chris Angel walk on water--- I want to see a third party verification service like "collective 2" or another track the trades done using the logic method by an expert in the method. however, you and or the other users of this method have refused time and time again to submit to even this type of verification. IF the method is solid, only upside can come from trading it publically. IF you do this, the method will earn my respect and thumbs up--otherwise its just another sketchy system with questionable anecdotal support and no real edge. surf
Surf, as a matter of comparison, how has VN's most recent performance compared to that of the trend funds? Are his methods "fatally flawed," or do they just look that way?
Absolutely amazing. Did you read what you posted after you wrote it? Proflogic, you're wrong. I have an open mind to everything I believe in already but if it is outside my comfort zone then it CAN'T exist. I'm not talking about what I do specifically but you just made my point to the letter. I work in an agriculture community so allow me to put this in a structure that even you might be able to comprehend: Through generations of farming, successful techniques have growth out of a system of "what works". Great-grandfather passes down techniques to grandpa that work. Grandpa verifies them through practical application and potentially improves on them through further or expanded use. Grandpa passes down techniques to dad that work, dad verifies them through practical application and potentially improves on them through further or expanded use. Dad passes down techniques to me that work, I verify them through practical application and potentially improve on them through further or expanded use. None of these individuals challenged the validity of the techniques as "magic". They personally applied them to insure the success of the techniques and then improved upon them if possible. They weren't summarily dismissed simply because they wanted outside verification from a inconsistent 3rd party. If this were the "norm" you wouldn't be alive or at best you would running around with leaves around your waist eating dead animal carcasses because you don't have the where-with-all to initiate independent thought or testing on your own. What great-grandfather, grandpa or dad did was anything but bending spoons or walking on water. Common sense dictated that things were tested personally first before they are dismissed. Why, because I personally trust no one more than I trust myself. Evidently you can't make that statement about the faith you have in your own abilities and that is sad. It is also very telling. Innovation comes from curiosity and creativity. Necessity is the mother of invention.
