Makloda, you know why he is asking you right ? He has NO IDEA what trend following is. Wants a guy like you who knows his shit to explain it to him. Everytime Surf says thay are the same he embarasses himself further. The answer is obvious, but for some reason Surf can't get a grip on it.

My theory, Surf has asked a few name big trend followers for interviews, and they slammed the door in his face. So he goes on this ridiculous crusade vs them.

Either that or he had an ex-girlfriend stolen by a trend follower.

  4. That's the problem . . . you just can't answer the question you have to change the rules.

  5. In a way an "educator" like Surf and his mentor Niederhoffer are a good thing. They keep spreading the myth trendfollowing "can't possibly work" and "you have to be a contrarian" to make money -- all this after 2008, one of the best years ever for trend followers as many funds pulled several billions in net profits out of markets.

Surf, keep anticipating and catching those bottoms and selling those tops (or what you mistake for one)... averaging into losing positions. I'll gladly take the other side.

  8. this isnt true. of course "trend following" can and does work at times. just like buy and hold---it works at times. However, there is no edge in the strategy.

yeah, TF's had a good year but it was after massive drawdowns the year before. remember if a fund is down 50%, it needs to make 100% just to break even......

Yeah, I always say, somebody has to take the other side of my trade. Thank god there are guys with Surf's mentality out there that will.

Neiderhoffer is a joke. Trade a strategy that works 99% of the time....the one time it doesnt you lose everything. Brilliant.
