Charming way to say hello, good day to you too. Real money = yes, otherwise what's the point wasting time on it. If your questions are more specific, maybe I can answer.
I have a question … you fetch data daily from an API for multiple symbols. Do you fetch the entire history every time ? Or do you fetch only the latest missing data then insert it into your dataframe / database ?
I guess most people have something to sell (courses, systems, subscriptions etc). Probably thinks this is yet another business post. Not many people left that are "just traders". I only trade though, no clients, so no incentive for me to worry about people like that. Updated positions from Friday close CSV files. Emotionally annoying watching Coffee retreat, but Cocoa unexpectedly has been powering forward.
I only use the API to place orders (via Realtests OrderClerk tool). The data I get is from CSI data, which is end of day daily bars - https://www.csidata.com/ They have a software called UA (unfair advantage) that downloads based on my contract portfolios, then realtest reads the output and runs once per day to generate orders. OrderClerk then places the orders with IBKR.
You have the luxury to step back, relax, as a systematic trader. I wouldn’t worry about inputs but processes and outputs Trend following systems are known to be annoying … giving back gains most of the time. That’s what it takes to ride the big trends. Sounds good. I didn’t know about this software / solution. I’ve read Clenow’s “Following the trend” and thought you would have gone full python, or whatever. Wish you the best on this journey !
Clenow's book is pretty good, I've done something similar to the moving average trend filter. RealTest I was already using for stock trading, so it was natural to adapt it. When Marsten said he would integrate CSI it was a great opportunity - the whole thing is very easy to use and I have everything running together. Python I use for some other scripts, daily process, data cleaning etc.
