Trend following is the way to make the serious money in this business, no matter if it is index futures or not. Index futures are the some of the least trendy markets, but do still have trend.

The reason that most trend followers fail is that they attempt to buy the breakouts and breakdowns instead of finding the reversals. When you buy breakouts or sell breakdowns, you are forced to make your stops larger than you would otherwise. By learning to find the reversals and then follow the new trend, the trader is able to pare losses which is what trading is all about anyway--Cut losses short, and let winners run. This is true even in index futures. Thank you for your time. :)

    Henry celebrates intramonth 15% gain

John W. Henry, chairman of John W. Henry & Co, broke his months-long silence about the performance of his sadly-shrunken investment company to tell the Boston Herald Monday that the firm’s Financial & Metals Portfolio was up 15 percent so far in August. (NakedShorts had earlier learned the program made 10 percent on Thu. Aug 16 alone but chose not to pass along the intelligence, fearing prejudice to a game then not even at the seventh inning stretch...but if it’s good enough for the boss to be provoking Market Gods, let’s help out).

“We don’t do well in times of low volatility,” Henry, lead owner of the Red Sox, said. “Things are very volatile at this point. That’s why we’re having a good month.

  6. The thread starter known as marketsurfer (a.k.a. hank rollins, et al) has, thus far, single-handedly wasted the time of all the people who have participated in this 314-page thread. I count myself among the casualities. Do you?

  7. its indeed sad that you consider education and conversation on the internet a waste. particullarly, since you spend much time reading the material.

the fact still remains that knowing the past price movement does not provide one an edge upon entry--- to believe otherwise is known as the "trend following delusion".

JWH can't find the trend, how do you expect to?

  9. And you regard your vacuous platitudes and rote proclamations to be educational? You are on the other side of this argument with just about everyone here. On what possible basis do you lay claim to educate others? Your performance? :p
