  2. That's pretty close to my view on it as well...

However, the story keeps changing and facts get twisted around so I don't really believe in either side of the argument anymore. Needless to say if the facts are as they stand depending on the severity of the threat to Zimmerman then Zimmerman should go free... If it turns out that no one was bashing his head into the ground, concrete, pavement, grass, lawn or whatever the main argument in self-defense and "fearing for his life"... goes out the window for him. That's about it...

There should be multiple witnesses to Zimmerman's injuries. Police, the medics who treated him on the scene, and the hospital he said he went to the next day. That would pretty much place it into the self-defense category.

If those accounts do not line-up, he has problems.

The part about getting out of his car to go around and get a street address sounds odd. Didn't Zimmerman live in the area? If he had been "patrolling" previously, you'd think he would be familiar with the streets. Also, would he have to get close enough to Martin to get an address? A block can be pretty long, and you don't even need to get out of your car. In fact, being in a car would get you to a street crosswalk with street signs even faster. "I'm at the corner of X & Y - suspect is proceeding Northbound on X."

I've seen some reports that Zimmerman said he wanted to work in law enforcement. Why didn't he just take the exam and do it? Without a badge, he's just a guy with a gun on the street following people he thinks are suspicious.

According to previous articles, if you had a previous arrest for misdemeanor assault charges in Florida then you are not eligible for law enforcement or teaching positions in the state, even if the charges were handled via a pre-trial diversion program for first time offenders. Zimmerman would be eligible for a a law enforcement job in other states however that do not have this requirement about misdemeanor assault charges that do not go to trial.

Attacked without warning??? Zimmerman admitted there was a verbal confrontation before he claims that Martin punched him in the face. Trayvon Martin did not just jump out of the bushes and punch Zimmerman as evidenced by Zimmerman's own words.

Also the phone call with Martin's girlfriend confirms a verbal confrontation took place first. Even though the words overheard in her account disagree with what was said in Zimmerman's accounting.

  6. Well, then he's just a guy with a gun on the street following people he thinks are suspicious.

I'm not in the camp that paints Martin as a choir boy - didn't know him at all, and he appears to have had his run-ins with school administration. Though, that would include a lot of teens...

But whenever there is a shooting involving plain-clothes police, a critical fact is "When did you identify yourself as law-enforcement?"

Because AFTER you identify, it is resisting arrest. BEFORE you identify, it is trying to get away from a guy on the street with a gun.

  7. Just to sum up what an objective observer would actually see here:

1 - A totally utterly and completely botched police investigation.
2 - No evidence at all of a struggle, as in:

    a) no scratches or bruises of any sort on Martin's hands.
    b) no blood on Zimmerman's shirt or jacket. Remember, he was supposed to have shot him while he was on top of him. Presumably, simple gravity would put blood on him. That same force would have landed Trayvon on top of him. And yet, no blood. Anywhere on him. How....odd.
    c) no evidence of bleeding from the nose or the back of the head.
    d) no puke: if the Cool one is correct, he had enough self-control, it would seem, not to puke from getting dizzy.

Remember, the shooting was at around 7:15, the video at around 7:50. 35 minutes, more or less, from time of incident to time of the video. And yet he walks around the way I would to go out and get the mail (except for being cuffed, of course). Doesn't look at all shook up, no limps, no flinching from contact to any place that would be tender from getting hit, clothes have no blood on them, from Trayvon or from himself.
Also, no emotion. If I had just shot someone a half hour ago, I'd still be shaking like a leaf. This guy? Nothing.
So, an objective observer would conclude that if there was a struggle, it was brief and had no physical effect whatever on Mr. Zimmerman. That same observer would have to conclude, from the lack of any blood anywhere on him, that Trayvon was shot at enough of a distance to prevent any from getting on him, and that that would be simply impossible if Trayvon were actually on top of him at the time the shot went off.
Not just hard, impossible. As in violating the laws of physics.
    So, if Trayvon wasn't

    a) on top of him, and
    b) close enough to Zimmerman to get blood on Zimmerman when he was shot,

just where was Trayvon in relation to Zimmerman when he was shot? Someone needs to answer this one.
