Firearms became the leading cause in the deaths of children for 2 quarters in 2020 -- which was pandemic related. There was a reduction in car accidents (less miles traveled when children are confined at home) and an increase in mental health issues when children/teens were stuck at home depressed with firearms in the household. Remember all the Covid-deniers in 2020 who pointed to an increase in teen suicides as a reason to end Covid restrictions and to force the kids back to school. Well the teen suicide rate came back to its traditional average as well outside of 2020. The trend in 2020 for firearms being the leading cause of deaths of children did not continue beyond this year. Firearms was not the leading cause of deaths in children or teens in 2021 or 2022.
