Trading while trying to lose weight on Atkins

Discussion in 'Politics' started by jem, Jul 16, 2003.

  1. Having traded both before and after starting a low carb diet, I can say you will feel much better after the first two week period. Your concentration will return and you will simply 'feel' better than you did even before you began this process

Your body needs to adjust from years of dietary abuse, to a new way of utilizing fuel. The first two weeks are the hardest. There are low carb and zero carb orange, grape and cranberry juices (and pink lemonade) available for purchase that taste almost exactly like the real thing. I created my own menu, and contrary to Dr. Atkins' advice, have never increased my carb intake beyond 20 mg per day. Most days, I have to force myself to eat all the 20 carbs I can because I am NOT hungry.

Blood pressure has decreased, cholesterol lowered, and 48 pounds gone since 02/19/03. I would be happy to share the menu I created along with some delicious, simple to make low carb recipes I have developed. Drop me an email if interested.

  2. Ever hear of the caveman diet?

The theory was very interesting and seemed to
be inline with the Atkins diet.

Basically... if you think of humans as an evolutionary beast,
we have not changed very much from our primitive ancestors
    who lived off the land.

    Compare out diets to theirs.

They ate MEAT and green stuff, occasional fruit.

We eat TONS of carbs: bread, rice, simple sugars, sodas, etc...

Our evolutionary bodies are WAAAAAY out of whack with
our current diets. This huge change to CARB based diets
happened less than 10,000 years ago.

No wonder were all messed up.
We never evolved to live off of HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP! :D

Makes me wonder if this is the basic reason the Atkins diet
really works. It's much closer to what our bodies expect:
    Scavanged/hunted meat and fat.

And oh yeah... our ancestors didn't get to eat every
    day either :)

The solution: meat every other day... hehe

  3. great post....i couldn't agree more. hunters vs farmers....explains why certain people may or may not be as carb tolerant. i feel much better on the atkins diet than a moderate "balanced" low calorie diet.....i think each individual is the best judge for what works best for them.....not "one size" fits all!!!! anyways, good post!!!

    Spydertrader,

Congratulations on the weight loss(48 lbs).....that's awesome and also sounds pretty healthy to boot.

  5. axeman, you've always been one of my favorite thinkers on ET and i agree with you here as well.

i definitely believe that most people's eating habits are WAY out of whack compared to what the human body has evolved to. it took thousands and thousands of years for our bodies to evolve to what they are, and then we totally feed it in a way that it didn't evolve to.

    GREAT post, dude!!

without getting too into it, imo it comes down to knowing how many calories and protein you need each day, then eat like a caveman the correct amounts.

Running away from things that ate them!

Plus they did not live long lives and did not get to develop the diseases of old age!

  8. Very true. This is the other half of the missing equation.

Americans are the biggest SLOTHS on earth.

Last year I was working so hard and long.. AT A KEYBOARD...
that I gave up exercising completely so I could get ahead
    on my work.

I became constantly i'll. Felt like HELL, all the time.

Then I started jogging just a pathetic 10 minutes a day.
    The difference was simply amazing.

Even just a LITTLE bit of exercise can have huge effects
    when you are completely sedentary.
