Dude....Ive been as low as 140lb at 5'11 and I looked SICKLY thin. People thought I was a coke addict or something! That is NOT a healthy weight if you have any amount of muscle on you. 133 might be OK if you are a thin boned, stringy, low muscle dude, but that doesn't apply to everyone. A 5'11 endomorph at 133lb would look like a seriously starved elephant on its last leg. (Not claiming welo is an endomorph). peace axeman
You may know better than I but I can't believe you actually added 30 lb of muscle to your frame. I mean lean muscle. More likely somewhat less muscle mixed with fat. Often it is hard to tell the difference when we look in mirror. It is possible you did but improbable unless you are some kind of genetic freak. That;s unlikely.
That's pretty much where I sit. I don't recall being under 150 since I was 16, and at 160 I have a 28" waist. 180-185 is the best range for me as long as I'm in shape. Cripes, even now after being unable to lift for over three years I bet I can still bench 245. And Gee, my bones are none of your business. I might be a borderline gimp atm but I can still knock somebody out .
Ok.... I wasn't being literal when I said 30lb of MUSCLE. There had to be some fat in there. To be more accurate, I gained 30 lbs of WEIGHT, and looked like I had extremely low body fat. Very ripped. That was the maximum weight I was capable of adding. Im naturally very lean genetically. My metabolism went nutz...and I was lifting heavy three times a week and downing tons of calories. 4000-5000 calories a day was not uncommon for me. That's what it took to maintain that amount of muscle on me. I couldnt do it for long, and gave it up. I hated food after that experience. peace axeman
You keep referring to 'looks". Looks can be deceiving. The society in which we're raised provides our conceptions of what looks "normal". I personally don't trust society to make this decision for me, do you? That's too arbitrary for me. Why should you carry more than a few % fat on your body? Regardless of what you may weigh or how you look, let % bodyfat dictate what you weigh. We are talking about healthier choices here aren't we? Make sense?
The only reason I refer to "looks" is because I cannot recall my actual measured percentage body fat from 10+ years ago. But we know that body builders are around the 4-5% range and are amonst the leanest inidviduals around. When I was serious about lifting, thats what I looked like. It was almost gross. You can see the fine detail in every muscle because there was soooo little fat in my skin everywhere. If I had to estimate, I would say that I was easily under 7% body fat, and probably closer to 5. peace axeman
Please don't take offense I certainly don't have the guts to post my pic here. However I must be truthful. Look at your hands and wrists. Smallish. Small to medium to be more precise. What does your wrist measure (circumference)? My guess is -- 7 1/4 inches tops. Your wrist will measure under 7 after losing more fat. Sorry but this is smallish. Don't feel bad I am not any powerhouse either. Peace and good health to you. edit: I almost forgot -- I wanted to ask why you think 180-185 is best range for you?
LOL ahhh you are not serious are you? I know a couple very thin guys that bench press more than that, you'd never know it to look at them. The bench press is much about leverage and technique, and less about absolute strength. Generally weightlifters are "stronger" lb for lb as compared to bodybuilders for the same reasons. Good health to all!
