Trading while trying to lose weight on Atkins

  1. More correct would be what you say works for you. That doesn't mean the same plan can even be implemented, much less work for 100% of the population.

There are many levels of metabolism and each person's level is different. To compound this, there are many compelling desires pushing one to eat, for some it is like a drug that they are hopelessly addicted to and dieting of any form is extremely difficult.

At your perfect shape and low body fat, one would have to conclude that you have zero experience in how to lose weight.

  2. "Thanks man. I'll find a way of getting her to look into it that makes her think it was her idea :D."

Just tell her you read a summary of the zone diet and it
seems that she has come to the same conclusion
as a PHD microbiologist who holds all kinds of scientific
patents for delivery of cancer medications :D Leave it at that...hehehe

" If she liked beer I have a feeling just two or three good beers a week would fix it. Beer is an amazing low-density source of complex carbs."

It is? How many calories in a beer?
Know what the glycemic index is for a beer?

    My other comments...

    1) What is your height? What kind of frame? Small boned, medium, big? (Ectomorph, mesomorph..etc)

    2) It's better to measure by volume not weight.
I've gone DOWN in volume, clothes fit looser, etc, but up in
weight since im replacing fat mass with muscle mass.

    3) Your weird cravings lead me to think your system really
gets outta whack at times. I dont remember the details,
but the doc in the zone described how to "read" your body
so you can fine tune the protein/fat/carb balance.

    4) Might try a grazing diet as well. 3 smaller meals a day
    with lots of snacks inbetween.
If you feel hungry, it's too late, yor insulin levels have
crashed and things are out of whack.

Maybe you should look into getting off the induction phase,
and get to a more normal balanced diet SLOWLY, and fine
    tune along the way.

I'm not a doc or an expert on this matter, but from what i've
researched, this is the approach I would try in your situation.
Oh...and keep up the weight lifting that you can do.
Those guys are lean for a reason. :D

  3. welo

    welo

Man, I don't dare try golfing again for at least another year. Same for the batting cage right down the street I've been yearning for. Sucks, but that's how it goes :).

I actually have a stairmaster, but I hit the same mental block with it I do with stationary bikes and treadmills: You don't actually go anywhere :(. And for the moment anyway, I hit muscle exhaustion before I even get the chance to work up a decent heartrate or even break a sweat. I'm sucking it up and working on it though. I think the obvious next step is a decent swimming regimine (zero body impact - maximum heart and respiratory rate).

Well... here's a pic I shot with the webcam a few minutes ago:

I stand just shy of 5'11". Wish I had thought to take a few pics prior to beginning the diet though. Pretty soon I could be on commercials, lol. The "love handle" on my left (this was shot in a mirror so that actually is my left) will likely be there for awhile, because it's a deformity created by being cut open in that same spot too many times.

    Thanks for your other suggestions.

That was the general plan all along, although I wanted to hit 180 first then de-induct until stabilizing at 185, which is the weight I feel best at.

Anyway, getting there. Once all you buckaroos around here start hitting fortyish I hope you'll look back and remember this thread :D.

  4. I start with 13 laps and up to 16 laps in a big pool. I increase by 1 lap daily.

I do this at lunch time to give me afternoon energy as I only drink 3 Atkins shakes until 3:00 PM...then I go on solids.

  6. That's why he's changing his eating habits.

  7. What???

If he loses another 40 pounds, that would put him at 150lb
at about 5'11 on a medium to large frame.

    That would be TOO light.

He would probably be ripped as hell at around 170lb.

    TOO light for what?
I disagree --He is small-boned. He could probably lose 50. At 170 he would still have too much fat.

  9. 5'11 at 150lb is listed as in the normal weight range
for the generic charts, but not when you have a good
    amount of muscle on you.

I've been 5'11 and 150lb and EVERYONE considered me
real skinny. (Very low body fat).

At 180lb after much body building, I was not huge, but
very muscular and ripped as hell. All my clothes finally
fit right. But if you go by the generic BMI scale I would
    be considered overweight.

From the pic, welo has got a good amount of muscle on him,
and he does not look capable of losing 40-50lbs of just FAT
to get to that weight. He would have to drop some muscle
    as well.

As for being small boned, we'll just have to ask welo.

Also.... 178lb would just put welo into the upper end
of the normal weight range for his height.

  10. Wow... according to the BMI calcs, you would have to
be under 133lb at 5'11 to be considered underweight!!!

Geeezuuuzzz! You would be a concentration camp victim
    at that weight!

    Whats wrong with this picture?
