Back to Low carb.... PLEASE! I worked out like a fiend this morning but i do have a big weakness for coffee...I cannot give up coffee in the morning but caffeine is very bad if you are going low carb because is spurs the production of insulin.... Big problem i really have is that I have almost NEVER been a breakfast person....I just don;t like to eat in the morning..never have...I know , i know, its the most important meal blah blah blah...but i just don't feel like eating...the problem: from working out at 6 am i get famished by 10:30 and then im ready to eat a side of beef at 11:30...also, form lifting you get insatiable appetite...even if i eat at 12:00 by 2:30 i could eat again....anyone else going through that???
Try eating a very light dinner with no snacks before bed. You might just be hungry enough to have that three egg bacon cheese omlet in the morning and get into that breakfast routine.
FPC... do you lift weights? You get insatiable appetite from lifting....I may try the lighter dinner becuase I do tend to 'bulk' up at night....last night i made a crock of homemade chil and had about three bowls!!!.
do i lift weights?! ABSOLUTELY YES! i do very intense resistance training. but so what, doesn't mean i will use this as an excuse to overeat. no matter how intense your training, you will reach a caloric and nutrient threshold above which further food intake is not only unnecessary but detrimental to your health for many reasons one of which is excessive production of free radicals that produce damage and premature aging. AND this will actually hurt and slow your recovery from exercise. so i say ..just don't eat.. again. don't turn eating into a hobby. find another form of entertainment. :-/
first of all resistance lifting is not the same....I did that type for years and it's really just like running to me....i don't have a problem saying no and im not having a weight problem....you are missing my point....im asking others if they get the same insatiable appetite form lifting heavy weights...the big difference is that before i was just toned form light weights and basketball...now im building serious muscle from heavier weight...i've never been this big or in better shape but still there is the tendency to want to gorge which i have never had before.
resistance training IS lifting heavy weights. i train very HEAVY & very INTENSELY! but *I* -- my Cerebrum-- am in charge of what i eat. don't let your limbic system in charge. it can't be trusted. it does not have your best interests in mind. :-/
Like anything, it's all about self discipline, right? However, we don't all have that discipline in the same areas of life. But there are tricks to help with one's own foibles. Like maybe not having your P&L on the screen during the day. Or making stops entirely mechanical. It was easier for me to give up chocolate entirely, than to moderate intake. I may have to do the same with processed sugars. FPC... you said you were going to withdraw from this discussion. So now do it. No last words, no parting shots. Just do it. André
i said in my post the caliper is probably off by a couple %. did i not say that?? i'm just telling you what it tells me. the point is, i'm in extremely good shape and you people want to bash me like i don't know what i'm talking about. i don't care, though. you guys can do what you want. as far as comparing me to jerry rice, yesterday i ran 4 miles twice, lifted weights, counted my calories all day, and got the optimum amount of protein. i've been doing generally this same thing for years; if i'm not in good shape, who is?
Ok Andre, you don't have to ask me thrice, i'm outa here. GG, keep up the good work, and carryon for me here in my absence. your're OK in my book bro!
Here's something interesting. I doubt it applies to many here but you might have a wife, aunt, or sister or someone you can pass it on to if need be. My wife is approaching fifty and thus is immediately pre-menopausal. We've been on this diet since early May and over the past month she's been developing symptoms like heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness when moving to a standing position, and excessive menstruation. I told her right off the bat I thought the diet was contributing outright and she didn't want to listen because she liked the results she was getting. Then about a week ago her best friend gave her this book about menopause (she must have it at her office because I don't see it around here, so I dunno the name of it), and there was a chapter talking about these exact symptoms being created by a hormonal imbalance due to a lack of complex carbs! She's now doing a self-created Atkins variation that allows moderate intake of whole grain pastas, brown rice and such (still steering clear of excessive starches like breads and potatoes) and it seems to be working. Damn, I'm glad I'm not female.
