This is probably related to "food combining", i.e., if you're going to eat carbs, limit them to fat-free or virtually fat-free carbs such as fruit, some cereals, etc. The idea is that there be little or no fat there when the insulin kicks in. Then wait two hours before eating anything containing fat. How this works out in practice is something like strawberries and shredded wheat for breakfast, then a regular lunch and dinner. Bread might qualify if it had no fat in it, but you'd have to eat it without, of course, butter.
Do you guys remember The Dr. Stillman Diet? If you get sick of one diet, rotate to another that allows you the forbidden food. Like go on a low fat calorie diet for a while instead if you crave carbs. Or weight watchers if you crave some variety. Just not all in the same day!

I think what you are referring to is different. The variation I was speaking of makes you stay on the atkins as usual with the exception of an hour per day during which you can eat all the carbs you like (but the hour of binging must be continuous and under no circumstances may you deviate from the normal atkins diet after the hour of carb eating). Supposedly this works!
If you expect anyone here to regard this suggestion as anything besides a load of crap, I strongly suggest you post a reference. Sounds to me like a ploy to have a secret laugh at someone else's expense.
Yes randy - we are all impressed by the conviction of your standpoint. Thanks for sharing, and have a nice day.
Yes, "my "convictions" (and 30 years of sound scientific research, theory and clinical trials) are all I have, wish I could give more. What's for dinner? I'm having the Atkin's Open Heart Special - Steak & Eggs! MMMMM!
The reference is real. I read it myself, though I don't remember where. One of the "protein" books. But I remember also thinking at the time that it was a load of crap. Unless you're eating fat-free carbs and unless you avoid eating fat thereafter until your insulin levels are back to normal, all you've done is perpetuate the problem. The fat's going to be stored, one way or the other. There are ways around carb addiction, such as making your own low-carb bread (from which you can make your own bread crumbs for chicken-fried steak et al), or using a parmesan cheese crust for pizza, or making cheese chips for dipping salsa, etc. Even cakes can be made if you use egg whites instead of flour. And almonds have only 1g of carb per ounce. Otherwise, do the crime, do the time.
If you knew me, you'd know that I would never do something like that. The reference is real and actually comes from Dr. Atkins' book. It was a hardcover book written by him but I know that the reference to the variation is eliminated from later versions of the book. I remember the book was white and hardcovered. I think it was "the new diet revolution" or something like that. He was not suggesting people use the variation but rather said something to the effect of: "...if you must cheat, studies show that you should do all your cheating within an hour because insulin takes 75 minutes to reach the bloodstream..." I'm not bullshitting here. I know that if you find the right book, a section in the back will make reference to the variation. If someone happens to come across the section in the book, please post it hear so people can be convinced. thanks
