  1. Ban all carbs? Did this a longtime ago when I bought my first fuel injected automobile; it had "0! Ziltch! Nada! Nein! None!" carbs.

  3. it is amazing to me how people and doctors who have never fully read Dr. Atkins work or listened to him exaggerate what he says....AS I stated before, I am in a different position: I work out like a maniac every morning...but there are times when I travel and eat a ton and drink a lot and I'll get a little bloated...I have used Atkins plan to quickly shed 5-10 lbs and to get a little definition before heading to the beach.....I have read his plan, seen his video and also seen him interviewed many times....HE HAS NEVER ONCE SAID TO ELIMINATE ALL CARBS.....His plan calls for 20 grams or less of carbs per day to go inot a ketosis...he also recommends SLOWLY introducing more carbs back into your life aft you lose the fat and then using a maintenance plan to monitor your carb intake.....The establishment is so pissed off about him that they are scared shitless...the whole "pyramid of food" scam is about to become the next big tobacco law suit against the AMA, and surgeon general....the pyramid puts on weight and encourages all this 'fat free' food that is LOADED with Calories...

  4. Exactly. And the "logical view" that high fat equates to bad blood levels is correct, if you eat all the high carb foods with it. I tell my anti-Atkins friends who enjoy red meat: "Don't tell me about bad blood levels, you're already on the Atkins plan but taking in all the high carbs."

  5. The other thing to consider is the carbs we are eating today are not what they were 50 years ago....Bread was flour, water and salt with a little yeast......today it is Corn Syrup ( sugar), Malt ( sugar) maltose, ( sugar), Dextrose ( sugar) Sugar ( sugar)......We are consuming soo much sugar in this country and we don't even realize it.....For instance: You eat a bowl of Spaghetti( sugar) and have a Coke ( sugar) and a piece of garlic bread ( sugar) for dinner......You probably ate the equivalent of 3 cups of sugar yet you go to the couch to watch TV thinking " I had a low fat meal that was healthy"....But unless you are in good shape with a good metabolism rate...your body will store all that SUGAR as energy for later in the form of FAT......This is why we are the heaviest society and Diabetes is running rampant now in the US

  6. Also that sugar intake causes an insulin spike which in turn causes low blood sugar which makes you hungry. The biggest diet paradox in the world; look at the #1, 2 or 3 ingredient listed on a Slimfast or equivilant product's nutritional label: sugar.

    Andre

I'm being a roadie/Merch guy for Matt the Electrician and the Asylum Street Spankers this weekend. So as of last night, with 3 beers and two large chocolate chip cookies... I'm off the diet. They were vegan chocolate chip cookies. Which means, I think, no dairy. But I'm hopeful they also used the not-so-much-processed flour and sugar you can get at a local co-op.

Rationalization is the key to life, after all.

So I'll be eating "road food" for the weekend. And then I'm home for 3 days, and then on vacation for a week and more road food. However, I'm still going to watch my carbs. I'll probably go back on the induction plan for another two weeks when I get back. I've only just started.

  8. When I get the urge for munchies, I eat a couple of low carb choclate bars by Atkins and others. The Atkins straight chocolate Endulge bar is fantastic. Also the Carb Solutions chocolate or chocolate w/almonds are great.

Went to Ft. Lauderdale for a week, ate out every lunch and dinner, always wine with din-din and didn't gain an ounce. Prior to that, while on induction and with the same schedule, I lost 5 lbs.

  9. Andre:

Just because your off the diet doesn't mean you have to throw in the towel....Avoid unnecessary bread intake . I for one am the type that goes to an italian restaurant and will eat a loaf of garlic bread before the pasta......Just try to eas up on the pasta/pizza and bread and you will be in good shape.

  10. Try the variation of the Atkins which allows you to eat all the carbs you want within a 60 minute time period, once each day. The idea behind the variation is that it takes 75 minutes for insulin to reach the bloodstream (or something like that, not sure of the exact medical details). I haven't tried it yet but have read that a lot of damage control can be done on the atkins if when you cheat on it, you limit your cheating to within an hour each day (i.e. stay on the atkins the whole day and if you have to cheat, then do so within an hour time frame and after the hour is up, go back on the atkins and be sure not to cheat again until the next day).
